Joseph J. "Jack" Woods

Joseph J. “Jack” Woods of Velma, Oklahoma was born to Henry Allen and Cora Woods on April 22, 1927 in Borger, Texas and passed from this life on August 5, 2020 in Lawton, Oklahoma at the age of 93 years.

Jack grew up around Chatanucka near Lawton and Foster, Oklahoma.

He served his country in the U.S. Army.

On March 29, 1947, Jack and Madge “Melva” were married in Vernon, Texas and made their home in Pernell, Oklahoma.

He worked for 50 years as a pumper in the oil field. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, finding treasures and gardening.

Mr. Woods was preceded in death by: His wife: Madge, Son: Kenny Woods, Parents: Henry and Cora Woods, 5 brothers, 3 sisters.

Graveside services are scheduled at the Foster Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Wooster Funeral Home.

Melva Rea "Madge" [Beeson] Woods

Velma - Melva Rea "Madge" Beeson Woods, 78, of Velma, departed this life Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006, in her home in Velma.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Velma Baptist Church with the Rev. Cody Deevers officiating. Burial will be in the Foster Cemetery under direction of Wooster Funeral Home.

Madge was born Jan. 27, 1928, in Royal, to Arthur and Trudy Beeson. She grew up and attended school at Burrows High and Pernell High schools.

On March 29, 1948, she married Joseph "Jack" Woods in Vernon, Texas.

A longtime resident of Velma, Madge worked in and owned cafes. She operated the Pioneer Restaurant and Woods Quick Sak in Velma. She was a member of Velma Baptist Church, and enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Jack of the home; two daughters, Jo Woods and Jeannie O'Neal, both of Velma; a son, Kenneth Woods of the home; a granddaughter, Kenna O'Neal of Velma; a brother, Arnol Beeson and his wife June of Moore; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Trudy Beeson; two brothers; and three sisters. Bearers will be Dale Wood, Dewaine Wood, Daryl Brown, Donnie Allen, John Callihan, and Keith Woods.
