Waukomis Cemetery


A Celebration of Life service for Gary G. Roberts, age 66, of Enid, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Emmanuel Baptist Church, with Rev. Wade Burleson officiating. Graveside service will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the Waukomis Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 on Sunday at the funeral home.

Gary was born August 30, 1950, in Wyandotte Co., Kansas, to Thomas L. and Virginia A. Gray Roberts and passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2016, in Integris Baptist Heart-Transplant Hospital in Oklahoma City after a brief illness. Gary was raised and became part of the Claude and Betty Golden family. He graduated from Washington High School in Kansas City, KS, in 1968. He graduated from Phillips University in 1972 with a BS in Education. He married Arlene Robinette April 20, 1973, in the Pleasant Valley Christian Union Church.

Gary began teaching at North Enid Grade School, and then taught for more than 30 years at Pioneer-Pleasant Vale Elementary School. He worked part-time at United Supermarket, Jumbo Foods and Garfield County Fairgrounds. He attended Emmanuel Baptist Church. Gary was an avid Oklahoma State Fan.

He is survived by his wife Arlene of the home; his daughters, Amy Barton and husband Tony and Abby Hilterbrand and husband Adam; seven grandchildren, Maison, Karlie, Killian, Camdyn, Charlie, Blye, Annaliesa and a baby girl to be born in March; three sisters; Linda and husband Dennis Wistrom, Claudia and husband Dale Underwood, and Janece and husband Joe Crosthwait; two brothers Kenneth "Scooter" and wife Patti Golden and Dan and wife Christa Golden; and several other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas L. and Virginia Roberts and Claude M. and Betty Jo Golden.

Memorials may be made to Pioneer-Pleasant Vale Elementary School, with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of funds.
