ENID — Funeral service for Pete Ramos Sr. “Pa,” 86, of Enid, will be 3 p.m. today, Jan. 24, 2012, in Waukomis Cemetery Chapel. Arrangements are by Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service.

Pete was born to the late Jose and Anita Ramos on Dec. 14, 1925, and died Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, at his home, with family by his side.

Pete graduated from Higgins High School.

At the age of 14, he began working for Santa Fe Railroad in 1945, and took a leave from work to serve in the United States Army. He fought in the Korean War, where he was a sniper and was credited for saving his whole platoon during an attack on Mt. Fuji.

After returning from the war, Pete went back to Santa Fe and and continued working there until his retirement in 1985. He retired from the railroad with 41 years of service. After retirement from the railroad, Pete became a licensed security guard and served many businesses in Enid, such as Jumbo Foods and GEFCO/Failing.

He married Leslie Beebe in Kingfisher, Okla., on Aug. 23, 1958. Their home was in Higgins, Texas, until 1976, when they moved to Enid, Okla. In both Texas and Oklahoma, they cared for manyfoster children while raising their own family.

Pete enjoyed playing horseshoes and dominoes, going to garage sales and auctions and collecting antiques. He especially loved working in the yard and tinkering in his garage. He also had a special fondness for visiting the local casinos and playing the slots.

Survivors include wife, Leslie, and his beloved dog, Scully; four children, Tommy Ramos and friend Karen, Sherry Ramos, Susie and husband Mike Hallett, Pete Jr. and wife Tara Ramos; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John and Charlie Ramos; and sisters, Mary Curtis, Janice Macias and Sarah Ramos.

The family would like to extend heartfelt and sincere appreciation to the wonderful Carter Hospice/Health Care team, Bass Hospital, Dr. Bobby Kang, Dr. Uma Guniganti and Dr. Rashmi Vijay.

Memorials may be made in Pete’s memory to American Diabetes Association with Stittsworth’s coordinating.
