Services in Bison

Recitation of the Rosary for Louis J. Markes, 71, who died Saturday morning in a local hospital following a long illness, will be at 7:30 PM today in the St. Joseph's Church in Bison.

Funeral Mass will be at 9:30 AM Tuesday in the St. Joseph Church, Bison. Rev. A. Waleczek will officiate and burial will follow in the Waukomis Cemetery under the direction of the Brown Funeral Home.

March was born near Hennessy and farmed east of Bison for a number of years before moving to Waukomis 10 years ago.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a veteran of World War I.

Survivors are his wife Lula of the home in Waukomis; a son, Orval of Waukomis; a daughter, Mrs. Bill Pospisil, Carrier; eight grandchildren; two great – grandchildren; three brothers, Clarence Markes, Waukomis, Earl Markes, Bison and Roy Markes, Bison; a sister, Mrs. Stella Boeckman, Enid.

He was preceded in death by a son Eldon in 1966 and a grandson Jimmy Markes in 1967.

In lieu of other remembrances, those who wish may make contributions to the St. Joseph Church Building Fund or the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation in Marke's memory.

Mrs. Lula E. Markes, 78, a lifelong resident of the Bison – Waukomis community, died Thursday morning in a local hospital after a long illness.

She was born on a farm east of Bison and was married to Louis J. Markes in Bison November 23, 1920. They farmed near Bison until moving to a farm near Waukomis in 1936, then to Waukomis in 1959. Her husband died in 1969.

Mrs. Markes was a member of St. Joseph Church in Bison and the Altar Society. She was a charter member of the Bison 70 Club.

She is survived by a son, Orval L. Markes of Waukomis; a daughter, Mrs. Bill Pospisil of Carrier; a brother, Clarence Herrin, Hennessey; nine grandchildren and six great – grandchildren. A son and a grandson died earlier.

The family has suggested that those who wish may make memorials to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation in Mrs. Marke's memory.

Recitation of the Rosary will be at 7:30 PM today in St. Joseph Church at Bison. Funeral Mass will be at 10 AM Saturday in St. Joseph Church with the Rev. Jerome C. Taloen officiating. Burial will be in the Waukomis Cemetery.

The Brown Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
