Waukomis Cemetery


James Allen Lovell, Waukomis Pioneer, died Tuesday Morning, January 21, 1941

James Allen Lovell, 88, a resident of the Waukomis community since the 90s, died Tuesday morning at the home of his daughter in Waukomis. Death resulted after but a brief illness. The deceased was a grandfather of J. B. Lovell, of Hennessey.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 this afternoon from the Christian Church in Waukomis.

Mr. Lovell came to Waukomis from Marshall County, Kansas, in 1895. After two years on the farm he moved into Waukomis in 1897, where he made his home until his death.

He was a charter member of the Waukomis Christian Church and served as elder since its organization, and a past worthy master of the Masonic Lodge. He had held membership in that order for 40 years. He was also a charter member of the Waukomis chapter of the Eastern star.

He is survived by three daughters whom he had made his home: Mrs. Nancy Elizabeth Albright, of Waukomis, with whom he made his home; Mrs. Rex D. Cleveland and Mrs. Arthur Jewell, of Enid; four sons, J. W., of Waukomis; J. P. of Fairview; H. C. of Waukomis, and Charles of Bronson, Michigan; two brothers, W. A. R. Lovell, of Carnegie; George M. Lovell, of El Reno; two sisters, Mrs. Ella Prossig of Sabetha, Kansas, and Mrs. Emma Barnes of Axtell, Kansas; 22 grandchildren and eight great – grandchildren.
