Former County worker dies after operation

One of Garfield County's most popular wheat farmers and a former County Commissioner, Joe Hromas, 48, died early Monday in an Enid hospital following a major emergency operation just 10 days previous.

The funeral services for the well-known County farmer who lived just southwest of Waukomis, were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 PM in the Methodist Church at Waukomis.

Rev. E. E. Holmberg, pastor, officiated at the service and burial was made in the Waukomis Cemetery with the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars assisting.

Hromas was chairman of the board of county commissioners for two years of his second term, which he completed two years ago. He was a member of the Masonic and White Shrine orders, the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, and had scores of friends throughout the county.

He had come to the Waukomis community as a youngster with his parents from Nebraska. He lived on a farm 2 miles west of Waukomis until the world war. When he returned from service he located on a farm 1/2 mile to the south.

Among the survivors are his wife, two daughters, Marcella and Evelyn, of the home; his mother, Mrs. Antone Hromas of Waukomis; four brothers, Antone, Frank, Charles and Louis of the Waukomis community, and a sister, Mrs. Bessie Vaverka of Hennessey.
