Helen K. SCHOVANEC and Charlie F.. HROMAS

Waukomis Cemetery

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO — Funeral service for Charlie F. Hromas, 93, of Colorado Springs, Colo., formerly of Waukomis, Okla., will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, at Waukomis United Methodist Church. The Rev. Garry Vincent will officiate. Burial will follow at Waukomis Cemetery, with Sister Debra Schovanec officiating. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the Silver Talon Honor Guard. Service is under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

Charlie was born June 25, 1921, in Waukomis to Charles L. and Irene P. Hromas and passed away Monday, Aug. 4, 2014, in Colorado Springs.

He lived in Aurora, Colo., before retiring and moving to Mesa, Ariz. Upon Helen’s death, he continued to live in Mesa, which he loved, until his health declined. He moved to Colorado to be near his children.

He and Helen traveled all over the U.S. in their motor home. He loved to fish, play cards, and was an all-around handy man. He was always the life of the party and had never met a stranger. He continued to entertain everyone by handing out candy at his facility and they nicknamed him the “Candy Man.”

Charlie never gave up on life but longed for the day when he could reunite with Helen. He will be missed by everyone who knew him, but will never be forgotten.

He is survived by three children, Darlene Sabin (Deryl), Scott Hromas (Kelly), and Denise DeJean (Ron); six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, all of Colorado; one sister, Guida Thomas (Bud); sisters-in-law, Marcella Schovanec, Wilma Petru, Beatrice Schovanec, Erma Kokojan and Sister Debra Schovanec; brothers-in-law, Virgil Schovanec (Rose Ann) and Ernest Matousek.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen K. Hromas, who was the love of his life and soulmate for 66 years on May 3, 2011, and his beloved sister, Marjorie Shaunessey.

Charlie was a dedicated American Legion veteran.

Memorial donations may be given to The Wounded Warrior Project with Brown-Cummings serving as custodian of the funds.

Condolences can be shared at Brown-Cummings.com.
