Waukomis Cemetery


Funeral services for Dwayne E. Goodwin, 84-year-old Enid resident, will be 2:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, at Waukomis Christian Church. The Rev. David Jones will officiate. Burial will follow in Waukomis Cemetery with full military honors under the direction of Henninger-Allen Funeral Home.

Dwayne was born June 27, 1923, in Waukomis to Chester and Violet McIntyre Goodwin and died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

He attended Pleasant Hill School and Waukomis High School, graduating in 1941. After graduation he enlisted in the Army Air Corps serving in World War II with the 8th Air Force, 445th Bomb Group as a B-24 bomber pilot. He served in the European Theater where he flew 21 missions before the age of 21. After the war, he attended Phillips University and graduated from what was then Oklahoma A&M.; Dwayne continued his military service with various assignments. During the Vietnam War he flew military and government dignitaries. He retired from the Air Force Aug. 1, 1969, with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was a rancher and farmer as well as owning and operating Goodwin’s Real Estate and Auction Co. in Waukomis.

Dwayne was a life-time member of the Waukomis Masonic Lodge, Akdar Shriners and Waukomis Christian Church.

He is survived by his long-time friend Elizabeth Vernon of Enid; his six children, Barbara Colpitt and husband Jim of Collinsville, Terry and Roberts Goodwin of Flower Mound, Texas, Patricia Underwood and husband Jim of Edmond, Marilyn Murphy and husband Terry of Macon, GA, Sharon Craig and husband Dennis of Enid, and James Goodwin and wife Michelle of Austin, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; the mother of his children, Wilma Goodwin; and one brother, Glen Goodwin of Enid.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Max.

Memorials may be made to Waukomis Christian Church with Henninger-Allen Funeral Home acting as custodian of the funds.
