Waukomis Cemetery


The funeral for Cecil Cornish, 94, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Waukomis Christian Church, The Rev. Dave Jones and Paul Hopkins will officiate and burial will be in the Waukomis Cemetery.

He was born Sept. 28, 1909 on the family farm Southeast of Drummond to Boyd and Elizabeth Cooley Cornish and died Thursday Dec. 4, 1903, at Greenbriar Nursing Home. He married Juanita Dick on Jan. 12, 1932 north of Drummond.

He was one of the original contract performers in professional rodeo. He was a trick rider, Roman rider and animal trainer. He was inducted into the Rodeo Hall of Fame.

He was a member of the Waukomis Christian Church, a 50 year member of the Waukomis Lodge No. 161, the Free and Accepted Masons, the Scottish Rite, and Akadar Shrine.

Survivors include his son, Wayne, three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two great grandchildren and six great step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife.
