Waukomis Cemetery


WAUKOMIS — Funeral for Elwanda Mae (Curly) Burford, 87, of Waukomis, will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 4, 2012, at Waukomis Christian Church. The Rev. David Jones will officiate. Burial will follow in Waukomis Cemetery under direction of Brown Cummings Funeral Home.

She was born Oct. 13, 1924, in Drummond to Scovell and Nellie Barton Swart and died May 31, 2012, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

She grew up and attended school in Drummond. In 1941, she married Ben T. Burford in Stillwater. They lived in Waukomis and then Oklahoma City before returning to Waukomis in 1972. He preceded her in death Sept. 18, 1992. She was a longtime member of Waukomis Christian Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Patty and husband, Carl of Jacksonville, Florida, and Terrie and husband, Phillip of Waukomis; one son, Joseph and wife, Amy, of Salt Lake City, Utah; two stepdaughters, Illona and husband, Jeep Morris, of Yukon, and Ellie and husband, Bill Powers, of Midwest City; a brother, Rolland Swart and wife, Nadine, of Enid; sister-in-law Joyce Swart of Ames; 19 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and 32 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Donnis Swart.

Memorials in her memory may be made to the Kid’s Café, Waukomis Christian Church, with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
