Shirley Ann BENDA

Waukomis Cemetery

The funeral for Shirley Benda, 72, of Enid, formerly of Waukomis, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ladusau-Evans Chapel, Tommy Donaldson officiating. Burial will follow at the Waukomis Cemetery.

Shirley was born Jan. 8, 1935, in Black-well to Claude and Cordelia Harris and went to rest in the comfort of her Lord and Savior Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007.

On March 24, 1956, Shirley married Leroy Benda of Drummond, where they made their home for many years. Her life was always dedicated to taking care of her family. The wife of a farmer and a custom combiner and the mother of four children, she worked tirelessly to meet all their needs, no matter where or what the circumstances.

Shirley and Leroy custom combined for 47 years, and through those years she fed hundreds of hired men while still taking care of her children, who kept her busy with all their activities. Shirley always felt the greatest blessings in her life were her grandchildren, and she always tried to stay as actively involved in their lives as she possibly could. In August of 2006, she lost her husband and friend of 50 years, Leroy, and her life thereafter was never the same. Though many family and friends have been there for her, she is now truly where she wants to be.

Shirley is survived by her children, Deena (Rodney) Tim, Mike (Jana) Benda and Marla (Bruce) Decker; her grandchildren, Ronny (Sara) Dow, Jerod Dow, Beau (Jenny) Ward, Evan (Paige) Ward, Robi Benda, Riley Benda and Megan Decker; her very special blessings, two great-grandchildren, Alexandria Ward and Jagger Dow, and her sisters, Claudene Vaughn and Sue Ellen Schritter.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, her youngest son Robie and her parents.

Memorials may be made through Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home to the Enid High School Band. Condolences may be made to the family at ladusau evans@sudden linkmail.com.
