Waukomis Cemetery


The funeral for DeWayne R. Atherton, 75, will be at 10 AM Thursday at the Waukomis United Methodist Church. The Rev. John Hauser will officiate. Burial will be in the Waukomis Cemetery, under the direction of Henninger – Allen Funeral Home.

He was born February 25, 1919, in Waukomis to Ralph and Edna McVicker Atherton and died Monday, April 4, 1994, at Highland Park Manor Nursing Home. He graduated from Waukomis high school and was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving during World War I I. He had farmed in the Waukomis and Enid areas most of his life.

In 1954, he married Eva Scheller. She died in 1982. He was a member of the Enid American Legion, Moose Lodge and the Waukomis United Methodist Church. He also was an active member of the Old Timers Dance Club and a volunteer at Bass Memorial Baptist Hospital.

Surviving are one son, Johney of Enid; six grandchildren; and six great – grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter and one son.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Church or Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Heart Division.
