Funeral services for Franklin A. Atherton, 62, Waukomis, have been set for 2 PM Tuesday in the Waukomis Christian Church with Rev. Gregory Smith and Rev. Bob Moorehead officiating. Burial will be in the Waukomis Cemetery under the direction of the Brown Funeral Home.

Atherton died in a local hospital Sunday, following a period of failing health.

He was born in Waukomis, January 24, 1907, the son of pioneer parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Atherton. He attended Waukomis schools and was a prominent farmer – stockman of the community. Atherton married the former Alice Irene Taylor, in 1925. He was a member of the Waukomis Christian Church where he served as a deacon, member of the Waukomis Lions Club and served on the Waukomis school board for 9 1/2 years.

Survivors include his wife, Alice, of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Jack (Yvonne) Prince, Tavernier, Florida; three grandsons, Mike, Mark, and Marty Prince. His parents and two brothers, Ralph and Carl Atherton, preceded him in death.

Funeral services for Alice I. Atherton, age 94 of Enid, formerly of Waukomis will be Wednesday, January 5, 2000, at 2 PM in the Waukomis Christian Church with Rev. Dave Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Waukomis Cemetery under the direction of Brown Funeral Home.

Mrs. Atherton was born on September 3, 1905, on the family Homestead, 5 miles west of Waukomis, the daughter of Charles and Viola Bond Taylor, and died Tuesday, December 28, 1999 at St. Mary's Mercy Hospital. She was raised and educated in the Waukomis area, graduating from Waukomis High School.

She married Franklin A. Atherton August 24, 1924, and they farmed south of Waukomis. Mr. Atherton preceded her in death on February 23, 1969. She moved to Waukomis and later to Enid. She was a member of Waukomis Christian Church.

She is survived by a daughter,Yvonne Lance of Enid; two grandsons, Mark and wife Julie Niles of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Michael and wife Catherine Niles of Valencia, California; a sister, Grace Loewenstein of Lincoln, Nebraska; seven great – grandchildren, Justin, Kristin, Kaitlin, Jessica, Melissa, Jackie, and Christie.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, and a grandson, Martin Niles.

Memorials may be made in Mrs. Atherton's memory to First Christian Church of Waukomis or Gambro Dialysis with Brown Funeral Home serving as custodian of the fund.
