April 15, 1932 - June 4, 2020

The Graveside service Celebrating and Honoring the life of Avis L. Hughes will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday June 16, 2020 in the Pleasant Vale (later corrected to Paradise) Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

Avis was born April 15, 1932 to Emma Hughes in Enid, OK and passed from this life June 4, 2020 at ENCH surrounded by her Elk City Nursing Home and Comforting Hands Hospice Families at the age of 88 years 1 month and 22 days. Avis lived at Sunnyside Nursing Home in Enid until the facility closed in 2002. Residents were then transferred to Elk City. There were twenty-eight individuals; Avis was the last surviving resident that came to the Elk City Nursing Home.

Avis was always interested in the grandkids and “where Amy was” she was inquisitive about them and wanted to know how they were doing. She loved the pictures that adorned her walls of her family. Avis loved people and always greeted everyone with that contagious smile and big hug. She loved “Chichen” and Coke. She like to play bingo and loved to go!

She is survived by her adoptive family James and Amy Finley, Steven Beck, Gavin and Christie Beck, Cody, Nathan, Levi Finley and their families, including 6 grandchildren, Chrissy White and staff at Elk City Nursing Home, who loved and cared for her on a daily basis, Carrie Perry and staff at Comforting Hands Hospice. Avis was a joy to all that she encountered. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed! Avis is preceded in death by her mother.
