OBITUARY

Funeral service for Alexander G. Wiederkehr, 93, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Rev. Scott Whittenburg and Rev. Kenneth Wade will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery

There will be a time of visitation with the family from 5-6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Alex was born Jan. 2, 1918 in Hunter, Okla., to Alexander and Katherine Ganz Wiederkehr. He passed away Monday, Dec. 12, 2011, at Greenbrier Nursing Home. He graduated from Garber high School in 1936 and Oklahoma A&M (Oklahoma State University) in 1940, majoring in agronomy. After graduating he worked one year for the Soil Conservation Service as a soil surveyor.

In 1942, he entered the military in artillery and training troops. Eventually he was sent to the Pacific Theatre. After the war, he continued to serve in the Army Reserves, reaching the rank of Lt. Colonel. He served 28 years and retired in 1970 while Commander of the Army Reserve Unit in Enid. In 1946, he moved to Garber to teach agriculture to veterans through Farm Training. In 1948, he was named head of the Agriculture Department at Oklahoma State Tech in Okmulgee, Okla. In 1960, he moved to Enid to begin and be in charge of the egg department at Gold Spot Dairy until his retirement in 1980.

He was united in marriage to Thelma E. Hutchinson on Nov. 19, 1942, in Stillwater, Okla. She passed away in 1999. They had five children. He was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and held many offices. He was an active member of Lutheran Laymen's League and served as Governor of Region 10 for four years. He joined the Enid Senior Center in 1980, serving in many different capacities and was recognized as Northwest Oklahoma Senior Citizen of the Year at the Oklahoma State Capitol.

Survivors include daughter, Sally M. Dunbar and husband Paul of Enid; sons, Alexander G. Wiederkehr II and wife Marie of El Paso, Texas, William Wiederkehr of Enid, Stephen E. Wiederkehr and wife Pam of Enid, and Timothy L. Wiederkehr and wife Elizabeth of Mustang, Okla.; 18 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and three brothers, Edward, Eugene and Erwin.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Meitler Endowment or Hospice Circle of Love.
