© Enid News and Eagle Enid, Oklahoma July 30, 2009 August 22, 2008 September 24, 1919 ~ August 19, 2008 The funeral for William Alexander White, 88, of Hunter, will be 10 a.m. today, August 23, 2008, at Hunter Christian Church. The Rev Don Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will begin at 9 a.m. at the church. He was born in Charity, Mo., September 24, 1919, to Heber Denene White and Ruby Elisabeth White Hutchinson and died Tuesday, Augusrt 19, 2008. He graduated from Cushing High School, then attended Oklahoma A&M. During World War II, he worked for Spartan Aircraft Co. In 1940, he was employed by Army procurement to Wright Field and became a flight inspector for the Air Force Midwestern Division. He conducted aerial gunfire tests and bomb droppings at Douglas Aircraft Co., Tulsa. He married Thelma Lou Sheffer December 2, 1944. They made their home in the Garber-Billings area after the war. He farmed 60 years and raised cattle and wheat. He served as a board member of Farmers Home Administration, Enid. He worked many years for U.S. Agriculture Stabilization Service. He was a member of Hunter Christian Church, serving as an elder for 50 years. Surviving are his children, Linda Wadsworth of Whidbey Island, Wash., Donna Lander of Pembroke Pines, Fla., and Bill White of Garber; and three grandchildren. |
© Enid News and Eagle Enid, Oklahoma July 30, 2009 September 26, 1919 ~ July 27, 2009 Thelma Lou Sheffer White was born in Hunter, Okla., on Sept. 26, 1919. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis Thurman and Maude [Brower] Sheffer. During Lou's youth, her parents moved the family to Garber, Okla., address west of Billings, which is the present family farm. During World War II, Lou became an aircraft mechanic at MacDonald Douglas to support the war effort. Due to her physical strength and dedication she was entrusted with the final work on the B-24 and B-26 aircraft. Lou had a passion for her work. It was at work where she met her husband, William A. White. They were married Dec. 2, 1944, a marriage they shared for 64 years. When World War II ended, Lou and Bill returned to Lou's family farm. She became a farm wife, mother and caretaker of her parents. Their children are Linda Wadsworth and husband Prescott of Whidbey Island, Wash., Donna Lander and husband Roger of Pembroke Pines, Fla., Bill White and wife Marilyn, residing in Garber. There are three grandchildren, Meredith Lander, Wesley and Alisha White, and great-grandson, William A. White. She also is survived by her brother John Sheffer and wife Lavelle of Garber. She was preceded in death by her husband, William, on August 19, 2008, and brothers, Alvin and Gene Sheffer. Lou was an active member of Hunter Christian Church with her friendly smile and joyous persona. She loved being of service to all. She was an inspiration to her family. She suffered from Alzheimer's and other painful infirmities. She surrendered her life to the Lord July 27, 2009. The celebration of her life will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, at Hunter Christian Church with Rev. Don Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 9 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with arrangements by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Hunter Christian Church. © Enid News and Eagle Enid, Oklahoma February 9, 2017 September 1, 1930 ~ February 6, 2017 Richard Arlen "Whitey" White, died peacefully in the evening hours on February 6, 2017, at the age of 86. Arlen was born in Ponca City to parents Charles and Francis White on September 1, 1930. He was the oldest of four children, a role he carried out with duty and honor. He met the love of his life, Velma Lee [Showalter] in Garber and they married April 20, 1950. He was a devoted and loving husband of 67 years. He is survived by his wife, Velma Lee White, sister, JoAnn Cogdon of Texas, daughter Toni Dallas and husband Rick of Enid, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He owned and operated his own paint contracting business in Enid for many years. He developed wonderful working relationships with many other business owners and customers. He was a hard working and dependable man. He was innovative and artistic. He could match and mix colors brilliantly. He could hand texture beautiful old world textures and could touch up woodwork and match stains. He employed many family members, friends, and those in need of a job. He believed everyone deserved a chance and with hard work comes success and personal achievement. He enjoyed coaching little league football and watching his son, Rick White, play ball. His daughter, Toni White, was his angel and rock. She is who he depended on. He loved Sooner football and tried to never miss an Enid Plainsman Football home game. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Francis White, brothers Lew and Jerry White, son, Rick White and grandsons Adrian and Tristen White. He will be greatly missed. The service is 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 10, 2017, at Central Christian Church, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home and Crematory. © Anderson~Burris Funeral Home Enid, Oklahoma February 2018 November 19, 1933 ~ 17, 2018 Velma Lee White received her angel wings on February 17, 2018, at the age of 84. She was born November 19, 1933 in Thomas, Oklahoma to Orval and Lorene Showalter, the only girl of three children. They later moved to Garber, Oklahoma where she attended school. She really shined as the high school's drum major and liked the drum line best. Velma met the love of her life, Richard Arlen White in Garber and the two married on April 20, 1950. They had two children Rick and Toni White. She loved her children and expressed that love in all the things she could make by hand. She was a devoted wife and an excellent homemaker. She was a friend to many and enjoyed bridge and golf. She is survived by her daughter Toni White-Dallas and husband Rick both of Enid. She also leaves behind very special grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by parents Orval and Lorene Showalter, husband Richard Arlen White, brothers Dale and Dwayne Showalter, son Rick White and grandsons Adrian and Tristen White. The funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. |

"Bill" White, 84, of Enid, were held Friday March 12, 2021, in the Memorial Park Cemetery, with Pastor Wade Burleson officiating. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home. Bill was born December 27, 1936, to Robert and Ailene [Brown] White in Birmingham, Alabama, and passed from this life March 9, 2021, in Enid, Oklahoma. He was raised in Birmingham until the age of seven with his grandparents to whom he remained close to throughout his life. He moved to Astoria, Illinois, with his mother in 1943 where he continued his education. After high school he enlisted in The United States Marines January 15, 1956, and was discharged on January 15, 1960, after four years of honorable service to his country. He moved to Paducah, Kentucky, where he soon met his wife Elizabeth Rollins. The couple was married April 21, 1962, in Paducah, Kentucky, and from that union came two sons: Brian and Kevin. The family moved to Enid in 1975 where he began working for the Enid News and Eagle Union side of the newspaper as a Pressman until 1998. In 1998 he began working at Phillips Drug until their closing and his retirement in 2006. He enjoyed baseball games at David Allen Memorial Ballpark and was a dedicated Chicago Cubs Fan. He was a member of the Emmanuel Enid Church where he was an Usher for over twenty years. Church played a very important role in his life. He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years Elizabeth White, of the home; two sons, Brian and Robyn White, of Enid, and Kevin and Tricia White, of Yukon; one granddaughter, Brooke White, of Enid; and one sister, Kathy Street, of Paducah, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his father Robert White, his mother Ailene Wickert, step-father Donal Wickert, mother-in-law Kathleen Rollins and one sister, Amelia "Dede" Jenkins. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given in his honor to Toys for Tots, with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds. © Enid News and Eagle Enid, Oklahoma July 13, 2020 June 10, 1978 ~ July 10, 2020 Mass of Christian Burial for Kenneth Earl White, 42, will be Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Reverend John Herrera, celebrant. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 9:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Anderson-Burris Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home, before Recitation of the Rosary. Kenneth was born June 10, 1978 in Okeene, Oklahoma to John White and Charlotte Unruh White and went home to be with the Lord on July 10, 2020 at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Kenny was a plumber by trade. His path wasn't always easy. Yet his concerns were always for the feelings of others, but that didn't begin to limit him. He always had that smile. The love of his family was always one of his top priorities. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Milfred and Helen Unruh. Kenny is survived by his mother, Charlotte and stepdad, Alan Marker of Enid; father, John White of Watonga; brother, Dustin White, niece, Nevaeh, nephew, Landon White all of Enid; paternal grandparents, Randall and Martha White of Fay; many aunts, uncles and cousins.
