ENID — Graveside service for Orbie M. Wheeler, 79, will be 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at Memorial Park Cemetery Garden Chapel. Visitation and viewing will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Anderson - Burris Funeral Home .

Orbie was born to Walter Ray and Amy Anne (Buford) Wheeler on March 29, 1932, in Madill and died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011, at his home in Enid.

He attended Bowlin and Madill Public Schools.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, stationed at Hanford, Wash., and Fairbanks, Alaska.

On Oct. 17, 1951, he married Thelma Jean Bumpass in Tishomingo. They lived in Texas, California, Washington and Colorado, before settling in Enid in 1965.

Orbie retired from K&M Engineering and was the owner of Wheeler Crane Service. He was a pilot and member of Experimental Aircraft Association, member of 700 Club and an avid gardener.

Orbie is survived by two daughters, Rhonda Downs of Wichita, and Lisa Wheeler of Enid; son, Rick Wheeler of Enid; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Doyle Wheeler of Amarillo, Texas; and two sisters, Ethel Forguson of Amarillo, and Ruby Adams of Oklahoma City.

Orbie was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Jean, earlier this month; son, David; parents; brothers, Bud, Leon and Leslie; and sisters, Flora and Mabel.
