ENID, Okla. - Funeral service for Gladys Arlene (Hayes) Weast, 84, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at North Garland Church of Christ. Gordon Jantz and Josh Haynes will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.

On June 1, 2013, Gladys Arlene (Hayes) Weast went to be with our Lord and Savior. She was born April 9, 1929, in Holyoke, Colo., to Oliver and Chrystal (Suit) Hayes.

Gladys moved to Lacy, Okla., with her family at a young age. She put her Lord on in Baptism at age 16.

Gladys attended Lacy schools and graduated in 1947. She attended Enid Business College and worked numerous places in Enid, before opening up her own daycare. Gladys retired in 2003.

Gladys married the love of her life, Joseph Melvin Weast, Sept. 2, 1949, in Enid, Okla

Three children were born to that union, whom she loved and adored, one daughter, Susan (Weast) Oldham, and two sons, Steve and Michael Weast. Gladys and Melvin have three grandchildren, whom they are very proud of, Kyle Joseph Weast, Mercedes M?Lynn Weast, and Marquise' M?Kole Weast.

Gladys was a caretaker. She loved to cook, published two cookbooks, was always trying new recipes, and always taking food to those in need. She was an excellent seamstress.

Gladys was a longtime member of North Garland Church of Christ. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Chrystal Hayes; one sister, Margie Osburn; and three brothers, Gerald, Jerry and Charles Hayes.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph Melvin Weast of the family home; daughter, Susan (Weast) Oldham and husband William of Enid; sons, Steve Weast and wife Pam (Lorenz) of Vernal, Utah, and Michael Weast and wife Melinda of Artesia, N.M.; brothers, Wayne Hayes of Wichita, Kan., and Larry Hayes and wife Delina of Claremore, Okla.; grandchildren, Kyle Joseph Weast, Mercedes and Marquise? Weast; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to North Garland Church of Christ Pantry Fund or the Charles Smith Phillipines Missions.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph Melvin "Pops" Weast, 90, Enid, is 10 a.m. today, Oct. 11, 2016, in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. The Rev. Aaron Foshee will officiate. Burial follows in Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.

He was born Jan. 4, 1926, in Enid to Joseph "Ben" and Martha (Hess) Weast, and died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, in Bass Baptist Health Center.

He attended St. Joseph's Catholic School, Enid, and graduated in 1944. He served in the Army during WWII from 1944 to 1947, with the 261st Infantry Company A Rifleman Division 45. On Sept. 2, 1949, he married the love of his life, Gladys Arlene Hayes, and the couple made their home in Enid.

Melvin retired from Gold Spot Dairy after 33 years and then worked another 17 years for Jumbo Foods.

He is survived by his daughter, Susan Oldham and husband, William, of Enid, two sons, Steve Weast and wife, Pam, of Vernal, Utah; and Michael Weast and wife, Melinda, of Artesia, N.M.; grandchildren, Joe Weast and Mercedes Weast; and one sister, Ruth Milacek.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 64 years, Gladys; his granddaughter, Marquise Weast; and his sisters, Ruby Weast, Marie Weast, Louise Davis and Rita Weast.

Memorials may be made to either Our Daily Bread, or the Marquise Weast Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Greater Artesia Foundation, of Artesia, New Mexico, with the funeral home serving as custodian of the funds.
