Lowell D. Warkentin
September 27, 1917 ~ November 11, 1997


A "celebration of life" service for Lowell "L. D."" Warkentin, 80 year old, were held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 14, 1997, at the First United Methodist Church in Enid, Okla., with Lucinda Holmes and Irving Smith officiating. Burial followed in the Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

L. D., the fourth child of Aaron H. and Mary Dalke Warkentin, was born in Goessell, Kans., on September 27, 1917, and died November 11, 1997, at home after a few months illness. At the age of three, he moved with his family to a farm near Geary, Okla., where he attended Good Hope country grade school and graduated from Geary High School in 1935. He completed a degree in Agronomy at Oklahoma A&M College in 1940 and a Masters Degree in Rural Adult Education from Oklahoma State University in 1965. He served as: captain with the 12th Army Group Headquarters in the European Theater of Operations during WWII in England, Normandy, France, Luxemburg, Holland, and Germany. During the Korean Conflict he was called back to active duty and served 18 months in the Washington, D. C. area.

After the war, L. D. began his career with Oklahoma State University Agricultural Extension Service and was employed in Custer, Ellis, Canadian, Roger Mills and Garfield Counties as County Extension Director. He served as State President of the Oklahoma County Agents Association in 1969- 70 and received a Distinguished Service Award from the National Association of County Agricultural Agents in 1960. L. D. and his family lived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 1961 to 1963, where he worked as an Agricultural Advisor for Oklahoma State University as part of the Point Four Program. L. D. was employed part-time by Security National Bank from 10 years following his retirement from Agricultural Extension.

L. D. married Elsie Ann Doughty December 26, 1941, at Oklahoma City. He was a longtime member of the Methodist Church and the American Legion, and a member of the Enid Noon Lion's Club for the past 30 years.

L. D. is survived by his wife: Ann, of the home; a son: Patrick, and wife, Alison, of Pine, Colo.; a daughter: Robyn, and husband, Cecil, of Guymon, Okla.; and a daughter: Colette, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; grandchildren: Reid Brooks of Oklahoma City, Molly and Matt Burns of Guymon, Lara Burns of Liberal, Kans., and Kathy and husband, Mike Gonzalez of Bay City, Mich.; and, a brother: Ralph, of Yukon, Okla.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Vera Regier, and a brother, Carl.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice Circle of Love with the Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the fund.

A Celebration of Life Service for Helen A. Warkentin, age 86, of Enid, is 4:00 p.m. Friday at Emmanuel Enid with Pastor Wade Burleson officiating.

A private burial will precede the service in Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Helen was born December 4, 1931, in Enid to George and Eva Janzen Kroeker, and passed away January 9, 2018, in St Mary's Hospital.

She was raised in the Kremlin Community, where she attended and graduated from Kremlin High School in 1949. She attended Tabor College.

Helen married Melvin Warkentin on August 29, 1950, in Enid. She worked beside Melvin in their church ministries until they purchased the Enid Christian Bookstore in 1977. They enjoyed traveling and spending their winters in Arizona for a numbers of years. She was a member of Emmanuel Enid.

Survivors include her son Steve Warkentin and wife Lori; daughter Rita Janzen and husband Steve; grandchildren, Andrew Janzen and wife Lynsey; Sarah Quinn and husband Adam; Benjamin Warkentin; great-grandchildren, Eli, Owen, and Sadie; and several other family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Wesley Kroeker, sister Alma Ediger, and granddaughter Hannah Janzen.

Memorials may be made to Tabor College-Golf Program or Assembly of God World Missions - Adam and Sarah Quinn Missionaries Reaching Universities and Hurting of Costa Rica, with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of the funds.
