ENID -- Services were here Tuesday for Mrs Fred [Nellie] Walter, 72, who died unexpectedly in her home here Saturday.

Mrs Walter, a native of Kansas, came to Enid in 1926 and was a member of the Trinity Methodist church and the Rebekah lodge.

She is survived by her husband, a daughter, a foster son, a sister, and four grandchildren.

Nellie M. Walter was born in February 1887 in Kingman, Kansas, a daughter of Albert Bixler and Elizabeth Gibson. Nellie's mother Elizabeth died in 1890, not long after giving birth in 1889 to another daughter, who was named Gertrude.

On November 7, 1905, Nellie married Fred E. Walter in Kingman, Kansas. The marriage license listed her name as 'Nellie Jones'.

In deference to both her birth parents and her adoptive parents and to clear up confusion regarding Nellie's maiden name, "Bixler-Jones" may be the more appropriate maiden name for Nellie M. Walter.
