The funeral for George W. Van Winkle, 69, who died Tuesday at St. Mary's Hospital after a sudden illness, will be at 10 AM Saturday at Henninger – Allen Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

He was born February 19, 1921, in Oakwood and entered the U. S. Army in 1942. He received the Purple Heart for wounds received in action in the EAME. On August 28, 1943, he married Juanita Hopkins in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. She died September 16, 1979.

After his discharge from the service in 1945, he moved to Enid where he was employed by the City of Enid in the sanitation department until retirement. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the American Legion.

Surviving are one son, Wesley of Enid; three daughters, Mrs. Duane (Thelma) O'Daniel of Independence, Kansas, Mrs. Forest (Georgia) Guldeman and Mrs. Pete (Grace) Cotal, both of Enid; six brothers, Johnnie Lee, Alfred, Clyde L. And James Jr., all of California, Bill and Everett, both of Arizona; one sister, Burnice Loomis of Woodward; 13 grandchildren; and four great – grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers.
