The funeral for Gertie I. VansCoy, 78, of Oklahoma City, formerly of Enid, will be 2 p.m. today at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home chapel with Rev. David Brooks officiating. Visitation with the family will be 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with arrangements by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home.

She was born to Harry Claude and Dorothy Alice (Hunn) Davis on Nov. 10, 1928, in Russellville, Arkansas, and died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City.

She grew up in Camden, Arkansas, and attended school in Camden and Russellville. She later attended business college.

On June 29, 1946, she married Rev. Charles E. VansCoy in Camden, Arkansas. Gertie and her husband pastored churches in Oklahoma for many years. She worked for Johnston Grain and Seed Co. for 30 years, retiring at age 72.

Gertie’s greatest joy in life was her children and grandchildren. Her unique sense of humor and love of her family carried her through many years of illness.

Gertie is survived by two daughters, Theresa Rieger and Phyllis VansCoy, both of Oklahoma City; two sons, Gary L. VansCoy and wife Dianna of Tucson, Arizona, and Roger VansCoy and wife Lynn of Enid; six grandchildren, Chuck Collin and wife Shirley of Enid, Tyler, Emily and Tanner VansCoy of Enid, Shaylon and Brandi VansCoy of Oklahoma City; four sisters Betty Jo Walker, Edith Tillery, Imogene Christian and Mary Alexander, all of Camden, Arkansas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Charles; her son Eddie; two brothers, Claude and Leon Davis; and one sister Glenna Mae Looper.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to OMRF-Kidney Division.
