H.R. “Ray” Townley was born May 10, 1921, in Olathe, Kansas, to Roy M. and Edna “Moon” Townley and passed away early Friday morning, January 11, 2008, at his home. His service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 15, at Central Christian Church. Graveside following at Memorial Park.

He attended school in Olathe, and then joined the United States Navy during World War II, serving as a printer in the Amphibious Forces Intelligence Services. After his discharge he joined two Navy buddies in the business of renovating and developing modern Memorial Parks.

This took him first to Shaw-nee, Oklahoma, where he met and married Anita Love, his wife of over 50 years. Six years in Ardmore, Oklahoma followed. They then moved to Enid, Oklahoma, where he served as manager of Memorial Park Cemetery for over 50 years. All who knew him respected him and knew him to be a man of honor and integrity. His sense of humor and compassion will be greatly missed.

He was a longtime member of Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He was a member of the Lions Club, the Men’s Garden Club and the Oklahoma Bluebird Society. He especially treasured and maintained many lifelong friendships. He developed close friendships with families he served at Memorial Park Cemetery, some as many as four generations.

He is survived by his wife, Anita, of the home; one daughter, Kathey Unruh and husband, Darrell, of Enid; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Waken Hogan and husband, Eric, of Oklahoma City; and his stepson Steve Love and wife Linda of Houston, Texas. Also surviving are his sister, Elenor LaCombe, Shawnee, Kansas; a brother, Charles Townley, of Blue Springs, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert “Bob” Townley.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Relay for Life, Dexeus Oncology, or Central Christian Church with Henninger-Allen Funeral Home acting as custodians of the fund.
