April 19, 1920 - November 18, 2023

The Funeral services celebrating and honoring the life of Helen C. Slimp, 103, of Enid will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday November 21, 2023, in the Brown-Cummings Chapel with Pastor Gary Miller officiating. The graveside service will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery of Enid. The service will be live-streamed through the Brown-Cummings Facebook page. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings, A Life Celebration Home.

Helen was born to William Edger and Sarah Griffith Nevil Backer April 19, 1920, on the family farm, Minco, OK, where she grew up. When she was growing up, she walked 4.5 to her school every day and enjoyed riding horses and playing with her 8 siblings. She met her husband while working on her family farm and they were wed, December 18, 1939, in Union City. He joined the U.S. Army, and they moved various places throughout the U.S. with his military service. He left for WWII in Germany where he spent five years returning with injuries and passed shortly after. She worked at a clothing store and as a quilter and seamstress and made her own beautiful clothing for many years. She loved spending time with her family, especially her nieces. She was an avid fisher her entire life. She loved sitting on her porch on nice days.

She is survived by her Nieces Debbie George who was her beloved caregiver and more like a daughter, her husband Gilbert, Susie, her husband Ed Clements, nephew David and Janet Jones and her brother Glenn Baker all of Enid. She is also survived by numerous extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her siblings Francis, Leroy, Wayne, Raymond, Evelyn, ElWanda and Cecile and niece Deann.
