Richard J. "Dick" Mathes
1905 ~ May 9, 1970

Richard J. "Dick" Mathes, 64, 1905 N Ash, owner of Mathes Typewriter Company, died Saturday in a local hospital following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 PM in the First Baptist Church with Dr M. F. Ewton officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery with Darnall Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. All Mason and Shriners will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Mathes was born in War Eagle, Arkansas, and moved to Missouri from there. He moved to Blackwell in 1938, then to Enid in 1950 and has lived here since.

He was a member of 501 Masonic Lodge, past Worshipful Master; Guthrie Consistory; Akdar Shrine Temple of Tulsa; was past Pres. of the Enid Shrine Club; a member of Enid Shrine Foot Patrol; past patron of the Order of Eastern Star No 36; a member of the order of the Ameranith; Enid Kiwanis Club; and Loyal Order of the Moose.

Survivors include a niece and nephew, Mr. and Mrs. Herb Pouncey of Meade, Kansas; and two grand nieces and two great nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Heart fund, with Darnall Funeral, as custodian of the fund.
