Mathers, 84, who died early Monday, April 20, 1970, in his home following a brief illness, will be at 2 PM Wednesday in the Henninger-Allen Funeral Home Chapel. Rev Frank Potoplos will officiate and interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Mission Fund of the West Side Baptist Church with Henninger-Allen as fund custodian. Mathers was born in Benton, Kansas, January 1, 1886, where he grew up. He moved to Enid in 1910 and married Elva Hart here June 5, 1911. Mathers was a farmer at the time of his marriage. He later worked for the State Hwy., Department as superintendent of maintenance for 18 years, then as superintendent of the Enid Street Department for 13 years, retiring in 1961. He then worked for the Park Department until his death. Mathers was a member of the West Side Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon an elder for a number of years. Survivors include his wife Elva of the home at 202 S. McKinley; a son, Clay Mathers of Enid; three daughters, Mrs Virgil [Grace] Morris, Enid, Mrs Joe [Mary Ellen] Howard, Burbank, California, and Mrs George [Benny] Worsham, Tucson, Arizona; a sister, Mrs Paul DeOgny, Harland, Iowa; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, seven sisters and a grand child. |
© Henninger Hinson Funeral Home Garfield County, OK March 2012 October 6, 1918 ~ March 16, 2012 Clay Mathers, 93 died peacefully in his sleep and went to be with his Lord Friday March 16, in Tulsa Clay, had lived his life in Enid. Services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday March 20, 2012 at Henninger~Hinson Chapel, Rev Vernon Lee will officiate. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. He was born October 6, 1918 in Enid to Benjamin and Elva [Hart] Mathers. He was a lifelong farmer in Enid retiring in 1980. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Air force as a first Lieutenant. He and Mary Ellen Hazel married in Hutchison, Kansas on November 9, 1938 and celebrated 73 years of marriage in November 2011. Clay was a longtime member of Westside Baptist church. Clay is survived by his wife Mary, four daughters, Linda and her husband Mel Shipley, of Enid, Mary Ann and her Husband Richard Tuttle, of Green Valley, Arizona, Sharon and her husband Dale Ross, of Dacoma, OK, Diane and Her Husband David Studebaker, of Arvada, CO. One son Dr Mark Mathers and his wife Calli, of Tulsa. Two sisters, Mary Ellen Howard of Littleton, CO and Benny Buckminster of Chickasha, OK. Sixteen grandchildren, twenty seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Grace Morris. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. Mary was born December 26, 1918, in Watertown, New York to Louis and Ellen [Hudson] Galleciez and passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2019, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She married Clay Mathers November 9, 1938, in Hutchinson, Kansas and celebrated 73 years of marriage before his passing in 2012. She worked for the Garfield County Court Clerk's office for 16 years. She was a long time member of West Side Baptist Church. Mary is preceded in death by her parents and husband Clay Mathers, one sister and three brothers. She is survived by five children, Linda Shipley and husband Mel, of Enid; Mary Ann Tuttle and husband Richard, of Richmond, KY; Sharon Ross and husband Dale, of Dacoma; Dr Mark Mathers and wife Calli, of Tulsa; and Diana Studebaker, of Denver, CO. She also leaves 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren. Memorials in Mary's name may be made to West Side Baptist Church Missions Fund or to the donor's choice with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
