© Enid Morning News Enid, Oklahoma September 1984 February 2, 1907 ~ September 17, 1984 The funeral for James I. "Whitey" Manuel, 77, 717 Mistletoe, who died Monday evening, September 17, 1984, in a local hospital after a short illness, will be at 10 AM Thursday in Henninger-Allen Funeral Home Chapel. Doctor Richard N. Duckworth, minister of Willow Road Christian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Manuel was born February 2, 1907, to James Franklin and Arrah Manuel. He and Viva Richard were married November 25, 1936, and made their home in Enid. Manuel joined the Enid Police Department on August 1, 1937, and was promoted to sergeant in 1940. He served in that capacity until he entered the Armed Forces during World War II. He continued to study law enforcement during his military service, and on October 16, 1947, was promoted to Captain on the Enid Police Force. He attended a number of schools and special training sessions concerning police work. Manuel was named police training instructor for the department November 1, 1953, and continued in that capacity until May 1, 1956. At that time he was named a shift Captain, serving until his retirement in 1965. He then worked at Vance Air Force Base in security until 1970. Manuel was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Enid Masonic Lodge Mo. 80, AF & AM and Willow Road Christian Church where he served as a Deacon. Survivors include his wife, Viva; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two brothers. Memorials in his name may be made to Willow Road Christian Church with the funeral home serving as custodian of the funds. The casket will be open at the funeral home until service tim. |
© Enid News and Eagle Enid, Oklahoma February 28, 2007 August 23, 1909 ~ February 24, 2007 The funeral for Viva Manuel, 97, of Enid, will be 2 pm Saturday at Willow Road Christian Church. The Rev Carrell E. Still will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Henninger-Allen Funeral Home. She was born August 23, 1909, in Ellis County near Arnett to Samuel Harry and Sarah Ellen Beltz Richard and died Saturday, February 24, 2007, at her home. She moved with her family at an early age to Hominy, where she attended school until she was a senior. She graduated from Cleo Springs High School in 1928. She worked for Pioneer Telephone Company six years at Garber and Kingfisher. She married James Manuel November 25, 1936. They made their home in Enid. He died in 1984. She worked at Down's Pharmacy seven years before working for Evans Drug Company as a department store manager 18 years, retiring in 1968. She was a member of Willow Road Christian Church, where she served as deaconess and committee member. She also was active in Women's Christian Church Fellowship. Surviving are two sisters-in-law, six nieces and five nephews. In addition to her husband, James, she was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. © Enid Morning News Enid, Oklahoma November 1980 July 13, 1911 ~ November 7, 1980 Funeral services for Mrs George [Goldie] Manuel, 69, to 17 S 26th, who died Friday, will be held at 11 AM Monday in the Chapel of Henninger-Allen Funeral Home with Rev Paul J. Enabnit, Davis Park Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. She was born in Kansas and moved to a farm in the Kremlin community when she was five years old and later to a farm southwest of Pond Creek. She moved to Enid with her parents in 1920. She attended Enid schools and worked at the S. H.. Kress store. She and George Manuel were married July 4, 1930. They lived in Pond Creek and operated Manuel's Produce. They later moved to Dewey, then to Enid where she cooked for the South West Golf Course. She owned and operated Goldie's Café on East Maple Street and helped her husband at his service station. She also help operate the Twinn Kiss Ice Cream and Café on East Maine Street. She also ran a concession stand at Gore Park and the Campus Café. They later owned a café on Lakeview 16 years until she retired due to ill health. She was a member of the Davis Park Christian Church. Survivors include her husband, George, of the home; one daughter, Mrs Mark [Paula] Boler, Enid; two sons, Tom, Cleveland and Steve, Oklahoma City; three grandsons and two great granddaughters. She was preceded in death by three brothers. |
