April 17, 1898 ~ February 21, 1972


Roland W. Major, 73, 1302 Indian Drive, died Monday evening, February 20, 1972, in a local hospital following an illness of several months.

His funeral rites will be at 11 AM Thursday in the Brown Funeral Home Chapel with Dr Leslie G. Everitt Jr as the officiating minister. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

The body will lie in state at the funeral home until time of service, and the casket will remain closed following the service.

Memorials may be made to the Cancer Foundation.

Major was born in Anita, Iowa, and came to Enid at an early age with his parents, the late Mr and Mrs Charles W. Major.

Major was connected with the Alton Mercantile Company, Marrs Wholesale Grocery Company, and Waddell and Reed, Inc., as city salesman. He was a member of the United Commercial Travelers for more than 50 years.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Frances of the home; a daughter, Mrs Darrel Bains of Portland, Oregon; four grandchildren; two step children and nine grandchildren; four sisters, Miss Louise Major of Enid; Mrs Brenner, Clearwater Beach, Florida, Mrs Glenn Zirkle, Waco, Texas, and Mrs Fields, Enid; a nephew, Geneva Fields, Enid.
