© Henninger Hinson Funeral Home Garfield County, OK December 2013 May 30, 1921 ~ December 17, 2013 Private family services are being held for Walter E. Krumrei, Jr, 92 year old Enid resident. Services were under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home. A register book is available for signing at the funeral home. Walter was born May 30, 1921 in Stillwater, OK to Walter, Sr and Ila [Dollinger] Krumrei and passed away December 17, 2013 at Golden Oaks Nursing Center in Enid. He grew up in Bristow, OK and graduated from the Oklahoma Military Academy in Claremore, OK. In 1943, he graduated from Oklahoma A&M with a bachelor's degree in animal husbandry. On May 15, 1943, he married Marilyn Hamilton in the First Presbyterian Church in Stillwater. From 1943 to 1945, Walter was stationed as a platoon basic training officer with the United States Army at Camp Barkley in Abilene, TX. Then, from 1945 until 1946, he was stationed as a surveyor and instructor in horsemanship at the general hospital at Camp Carson in Colorado Springs, CO. In September 1946, they moved to Ramona, Oklahoma where they began ranching with dairy, beef cattle and horses. In 1951, Walter was recalled into active duty during the Korean Conflict as an ambulance company commander. He was discharged as Captain from the US Army in 1953. The couple moved to North Enid briefly, and in 1957 they settled in Northwest Enid and continued their ranching. Known as the Running K Ranch, he and Marilyn raised running quarter horses. Since August 2005, they had resided at Golden Oaks together. After 69 years together, Marilyn passed away in November, 2012. Walter was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church of Enid, past Worthy Patron of Oklahoma Eastern Star and a 32nd degree Mason. He was also past President of Garfield Downs for horse racing, of which he was also instrumental in organizing and starting. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; son, Warrant Officer Don Krumrei, who was killed in the Vietnam War, and his parents. Walter is survived by daughter, Kay Blakley and husband, Mickey of Hennessey; granddaughters, Cindy Pribil and husband, Roger of Hennessey; Tanya Cameron and husband, Chris of Kingfisher; great-grandchildren, Blake and Brooke Cameron; Elizabeth and Ryan Pribil and family friend, Marie Pierce of Enid. Memorials can be made through the funeral home to First Presbyterian Church, Disabled American Veterans or the charity of one’s choice. |
© Henninger Hinson Funeral Home Garfield County, OK November 2012 January 8, 1923 ~ November 23, 2012 Memorial service for Marilyn Lucy Krumrei, 89-year-old Enid resident, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2012, in Golden Oaks Chapel. Pastor Gary Miller will officiate. A private family committal will precede the service, which is under direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home, with Andrew Long from First Presbyterian Church officiating. Marilyn was born January 8, 1923, in Pittsburgh, PA, to Donald and Grace [Lysinger] Hamilton and died Friday, November 23, 2012, in Golden Oaks Nursing Home. She spent her junior year of high school in France and traveled extensively in Europe and North Africa. She returned to graduate from Stillwater High School and then attended Oklahoma A&M. On May 15, 1943, she married Walter Krumrei in First Presbyterian Church in Stillwater, where she also played the organ. The couple made their first home in Abilene, TX, where Walter was stationed training troops for World War II. They later were stationed in Colorado Springs. They moved to Ramona, OK, where they began ranching. The couple moved to North Enid briefly, and then in 1957 they settled in northwest Enid and continued ranching. Marilyn started raising and showing birds. Marilyn also enjoyed bowling, and traveling across the country to watch their racehorses run. She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Enid, where she sang in the choir. She was crowned Mrs. Enid in 1959. She was an active member of Carrier Home Demonstration Club and PTA, a mother adviser for Order of Rainbow for Girls, a member of Eastern Star and White Shrine, a past president of PEO Chapter GF and a member of Daughters of the American Revolution. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Walter, of Golden Oaks; her daughter, Kay Blakley and husband Mickey, of Hennessey; granddaughters, Cindy Pribil and husband Roger of Hennessey and Tanya Cameron and husband Chris of Kingfisher; great-grandchildren, Blake and Brook Cameron and Elizabeth and Ryan Pribil; and her very good friend, Marie Pierce of Enid. She was preceded in death by her brother, Knox Hamilton; her son, warrant officer Don Krumrei who was killed in the Vietnam War; and her parents. Memorials may be made through Henninger-Hinson to OMRF, Leukemia Division, or First Presbyterian Church music department. © Enid Morning News Enid, Oklahoma July 1970 December 22, 1945 ~ July 16, 1970 Services Slated for Warrent Officer Donald Krumrei Funeral services for Warrent Officer Donald Krumrei, 24, who was killed in Vietnam while on a military mission, will be at 2 PM Tuesday in the Henninger-Allen Funeral Chapel. Rev. Leslie G. Everitt Jr. will officiate and burial with full military rites will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Krumrei was born September 22, 1945, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, attended schools in Ramona and North Enid before graduating from Carrier High in 1963. He had lettered in baseball and basketball. Krumrei attended Oklahoma State University two years where he was a member of Delta Chi fraternity. He graduated in January, 1969, from Northwestern State College at Alva with a BS degree in physical education. After graduation he volunteered for the Army Helicopter program and after completing basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana, was sent to primary helicopter training at Fort Walters, Texas, and to Fort Rucker, Alabama, for secondary training. Krumrei received his wings as helicopter pilot and his warrent as a warrent officer on February 23, 1970. After a short leave at home, he was sent to Vietnam on March 28. Krumrei was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and one Order of DeMolay. He is survived by his parents, Mr and Mrs Walter E. Krumrei, Northwest of Enid; a sister, Mrs Mickey [Kay] Blakley, Hennessy; maternal grandparents, Mr and Mrs Donald A Hamilton, Stillwater and paternal grandmother, Mrs W. E. Krumrei Sr, 1319 N. Independence.
