Charles Henry Kimes Sr
June 21, 1886 ~ March 5, 1972


Charles H. Kimes, 85, 2017 E. Broadway, died Sunday in a local convalescent hospital, following a lengthy illness.

His funeral service will be at 4 PM Wednesday in the Chapel of the Brown Funeral Home with Rev Ray Wallace officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Kimes was born in Sumner County, Kansas, and moved to Enid in 1915. He operated a grocery store near Phillips University for a number of years. He and his wife celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last December.

He was a member of the University Place Christian church.

Survivors include his wife Mayme of the home; a son, Charles H. Kimes Jr, San Francisco, California; one grandchild and a brother John Kimes of Arkansas City, Kansas.

Mattie Orpha "Mayme" [Watts] Kimes
December 3, 1888 ~ October 15, 1972


Mrs. Mayme Kimes, 83, 2017 E. Broadway, died early Tuesday morning in a local rest home. She was born in Cowley County, Kansas.

In 1906 she married Charles H. Kimes at Arkansas City, Kansas, and they moved to Enid in 1915 where they operated a grocery store near Phillips University for many years.

Mrs Kimes was a well-known landscape painter and was sponsored by the Enid Fine Arts Club, of which she was an honorary member, to the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 1948.

She and her husband celebrated their golden wedding anniversary December 26, 1971. He preceded her in death March 5.

Mrs Kimes was a member of the University Place Christian Church and an honorary member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority.

Her survivors include a son, Charles H. Jr, San Francisco, California; a sister, Mrs Laura O'Rourk, San Francisco; a brother, Loren E. Watts, Douglas, Kansas; and one grandson.

Funeral rites will be Saturday at 1 PM in the Brown Funeral Home Chapel. Rev Ray Wallace will officiate and burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery.
