© Enid News and Eagle Enid, Oklahoma May 1, 2018 June 11, 1926 ~ April 27, 2018 The mass of Christian burial for Edward "Ed" Kennedy, 91 year-old former Ringwood resident will be 11:00AM Wednesday, May 2, 2018 in the Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel. Deacon Tony Crispo will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Ed was born on a family dairy farm south of Ringwood. He lived on the same section of land for 85 years. Ed's grandparents were born and raised in Ireland. They moved to Wichita, KS. where his father one day noticed an ad in the local paper for a farm for sale in Noble County, OK. His father jumped on a train, bought the farm, and moved to his new home. Ed had two brothers and three sisters. Both of his brothers were killed in WW II, and his sisters each moved away after finishing school. Ed remained on the farm to assist his parents. He enjoyed milking and taking care of their 25 dairy cows. When his parents retired and moved a few miles away, Ed began thinking about marriage. His wife Jean became his life partner, and together they built a family of three daughters and a son. Ed and Jean were active in the farm bureau and with their children's activities. They were members of the Catholic faith and attended Mass at several locations. Ed had attended grade school in a small schoolhouse that had been built on one corner of their family farm. After the school closed in 1968, Ed and Jean moved from the family house into the schoolhouse where he and his siblings had attended classes as children, converting on of the classrooms into a garage. Ed discovered an interest in woodworking when he was 70. He purchased a scroll saw and created works of art which he showed at arts and craft shows and gave as gifts to friends and family. Ehen Jean moved into the Commons Health Care Center in 2012, Ed moved into Asbury apartments to be near her. He is survived by his daughters, Debbie Moore and husband James of Stillwater, Linda Lassiter and husband Floyd, of Boyd, TX. and Bev Young and husband Brad of Colleyville, TX. 5 grandchildren; Christy Prescott, Joe Moore, Heather Brock, Brent Young, and Chasity Kennedy. 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son Kenneth Leroy Kennedy, two brothers and three sisters. © Henninger Hinson Funeral Home Garfield County, OK October 2011 October 13, 1932 ~ October 22, 2011 Velma Jean Kennedy, 79 year old Ringwood OK resident, was born October 13, 1932, in rural Hunter OK to Emiel E. Dierksen and Mary [Smat] Dierksen and died October 22, 2011, in The Commons of Enid OK. She graduated from Ames High school with the class of 1950. She was employed at Southwestern Bell in Enid after high school until 1953, when she married Edward G. Kennedy in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. The couple made their home on a farm southwest of Ringwood. She waitressed for a time and then was Secretary for Major County District 1 for 15 years until her retirement. She was a member of St Anthony's Catholic Church in Okeene OK. She was a member of the Cimarron Valley Sewing Club, a volunteer at the Major County Historical Society, 4-H leader, FFA Booster Club. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, and doing puzzles. She is survived by her husband Edward, of the home; daughters Debbie Moore and husband James of Stillwater OK, Linda Lassiter and husband Floyd of Ringwood, and Bev Young and husband Brad of Colleyville TX; grandchildren Christy Prescott, Joe Moore, Heather Brock, Brent Young, and Chasity Kennedy; 5 great-grandchildren and one on the way; sister Ruby Hessel and husband Wes of Carrier OK; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. © Enid News and Eagle Enid, Oklahoma April 26, 2011 February 6, 1933 ~ April 23, 2011 ENID - Funeral for Alfred Willys Kennedy, 77, will be 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church with Rev Keith Miller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with arrangements by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. Alfred was born to James Edison and Ola [Olbert] Kennedy on Dec. 6, 1933, in Jefferson, Okla., and went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, in Enid, Okla. Alfred grew up on the family farm and graduated from Hunter High School. On Aug. 18, 1963, he married Yvonne Joy Craton. He farmed in Hunter, Lucien and Fairmont, later moving to Enid in 1995. Alfred also worked at Enid Livestock Sale Barn for over 20 years. Alfred enjoyed gardening, whistling, birds, reading, flowers, traveling, playing cards and was an avid sports fan. His favorite teams were St. Louis Cardinals, Dallas Cowboys and OU Sooners. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Alfred was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia on April 6, 2010. After two months at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, and when two rounds of chemo did not get him into remission, he was sent home on June 18, 2010, given the prognosis of a little time left on earth. Only God knows the number of our days and God blessed Alfred with an additional 278 days. He spent those days at home, doing what he loved. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne of the home; daughters, Tammy Joy Kennedy of Attica, Kan., Julie Alberta and Richard Boles of Fairmont, Earline Lynn and Steve Cox of Tacoma, Wash., and Laurene Gwen and Russ Flock of Enid; five grandchildren, Ryan and Elizabeth Boles, Rachael Burk and Andrew and Nicole Cox; and three sisters, Phyllis Newman of Wichita, Kan., Hazel McIntosh of Eureka, Kan., and Gladys Olson of Enid. Alfred was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Floyd Kennedy; three sisters, Dorthy Yewell, Ruby Kitson and Clara Ward; and granddaughter, August Joy Kennedy. © Enid News and Eagle Enid, Oklahoma February 21, 2020 December 2, 1935 ~ February 21, 2020 Celebration of life service for Yvonne Joy Kennedy "Vonnie" 84, will be 2:30 PM, Monday, February 24, 2020, at First Baptist Church with Rev Kelly Russell and Rev. Gary Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. Visitation with the family present will be Sunday, February 23, from 4:00 to 5:00 pm at the funeral home. Yvonne was born December 2, 1935, in Enid, Oklahoma to Dr E. F. and Helene Lorene Craton and on February 21, 2020, she went to sleep and woke up in the arms of Jesus on her mothers's birthday. She graduated from Enid High School in 1953, and Enid Business College in 1954. Yvonne attended Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri from November 1955 to 1958. She was employed as a legal secretary for various attorneys in Enid, and secretary for the American Cancer Society in Springfield, Missouri. On August 18, 1963, she married Alfred Kennedy in Enid. They made their home on a farm near Fairmont, Oklahoma. They had four daughters Tammy, Julie and twins Earline and Laurene. She moved to Enid with her husband Alfred in 1995. After 23 ½ years out of the office, she returned as secretary of The Salvation Army in Enid, for over 9 years before retiring in 1996. Her hobbies included writing poetry, etc. Among her writings was her book "My Friends Wore Feathers". She enjoyed birds, among them raising wild birds in distress. Yvonne and her husband Alfred shared a love for flowers. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Enid. Yvonne's greatest blessing was knowing Jesus Christ as her personal Savior, which heightened her appreciation for all of her other relationships and blessings in life. She is survived by her children Tammy Kennedy of Enid, Julie Boles [Richard] of Fairmont, Earline Cox [Steve] of Puyallup, Washington, and Laurene Flock [Russ] of Enid; 5 grandchildren Ryan Boles [Amanda], Elizabeth Hannenberg [Axel], Rachael Delgado [Omar], Andrew Cox and Nicole Cox; 1 great grandchild Harrison Hannenberg; and her sister Mavis L. Miller of Emmett, Idaho. Yvonne was preceded in death by her mother, Helene Lorene Craton; her father Dr Earl Franklin Craton, her precious granddaughter August Joy Kennedy, and her husband Alfred Kennedy.
