ENID — Funeral service for Roger L. Johnston, 77, will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Susan Southall officiating. Private family burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-7 p.m. today at the funeral home . Arrangements by Anderson - Burris Funeral Home .

Roger was born to Roger Clyde Johnston and Oveta Mae Hasley Johnston on Aug. 23, 1934, in Tipton, Okla., and passed away Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, in Enid.

At only six months of age, his mother passed away and he was raised by his father with the assistance of his Aunt Elsa and Uncle Dan Pickrell.

He grew up in Tipton, where he graduated from high school in 1952.

In February 1954, he joined the United States Army, where he served until February 1956. During that time he spent one year in Korea.

He then studied at Oklahoma State University and then later graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1958. In 1964, he graduated from University of Oklahoma College of Law. He practiced as an attorney in Enid for over 45 years.

Roger was a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association, AMBUCS and numerous other state and local civic organizations. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church. He loved to play golf and watch OU football, but most of all he was proud of his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Lila Johnston of the home ; one daughter, Leslie McCool and husband Richard of Enid; one son, Matt Johnston and wife Jennifer of Enid; five grandchildren, Josh, Kate, and Anna Johnston and Jacob and Natalie McCool; one brother, Lindy Pickrell and wife Jamie of Mooresville, N.C. He also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Dana Reavis.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church or Noon AMBUCS.
