© Enid Morning News Enid, Oklahoma January 1976 October 9, 1896 ~ January 27, 1976 Mrs Chester (Edith) James, 79, 2110 W. Cherokee, died Tuesday morning in a local hospital after a period of ill health. She had entered the hospital Monday morning. Her funeral will be at 2 PM Thursday in the Ladusau-Evans Chapel with the Rev Paul Caskey officiating. She will be buried in Memorial Park Cemetery. Those who wish may make contributions to the Central United Methodist Church in memory of Mrs James. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Mrs James was born October 9, 1896, in Boone County, Iowa, and came to Oklahoma from Iowa in 1912. She had lived in different communities before moving to Enid from Hillsdale in 1965. Mrs James was a member of the Central United Methodist Church. The former Edith Schminke, she and Chester James were married September 1, 1918, at Marshall and he survives. She is also survived by a daughter, Mrs Chesta Bell Bryant of Houston, Texas; two sons, Jerrald James of Lamont and Willard James of Quinlan, Texas; two sisters, Mrs Elnora Weber of Marshall and Mrs Lillian Calhoun of Wichita, Kansas; 12 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A brother and a sister predeceased her. |
© Enid News and Eagle Enid, Oklahoma June 4, 2011 August 4, 1917 ~ June 1, 2011 ENID - Ellen Cecilia Person James was born on a farm southwest of Hillsdale on August 4, 1917, and died June 1, 2011, in Wichita Falls, Texas. She was the daughter of Nels and Amanda Person. Her parents moved to Hillsdale in 1922, where she attended school, graduating from high school in 1935. She graduated from Enid Business College in 1937, winning many honors. She worked as a secretary in Enid for several years. On June 4, 1939, she married Glen M. James, her high school sweetheart. They both worked in Enid for several years, moving back to Hillsdale in 1943, where Glen managed the Hillsdale Elevator. In 1950, they moved to the James family farm where she resided until moving to a retirement center in Texas in 2005 to be closer to her children. Glen passed away in September 1999. They celebrated their wedding anniversary in June 1999. She was a lifetime member of Hillsdale Bible Church where she held different positions. She is survived by her children; Roy and wife, Vera, of Lacombe, LA.; Glendene Lavene and husband, Arnold, of Wichita Falls, TX; Carl and wife, Lynn, of South Haven, KS; Bruce and wife, Sharon, of Grand Praire, TX; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one brother, Lenart, and wife, LaDonna, of Hillsdale , OK.; and one sister, Pauline Millemon, of Lamont, OK. Visitation will be 1-2 pm June 4, 2011, at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside service will be 2:30 pm at Memorial Park Cemetery with Reverend Bob Courtney officiating. © Enid News and Eagle Enid, Oklahoma June 11, 2013 May 8, 1921 ~ June 2, 2013 ENID - Celebration service for Virginia M. Goodwin James, 92, will be 2 pm Friday, July 12, 2013, at Central Assembly of God Church, with Rev Kevin Ward officiating. Arrangements by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. Virginia was born to Fredrick and Lula [Powell] Goodwin on May 8, 1921, in Norman, and left this earth on June 2, 2013, in Enid after a brief illness. Virginia was the oldest of three children. Her dad was a member of the Army Artillery [horse-drawn] Regiment stationed on the OU campus. She graduated from Norman High School in 1939, and married her high school sweetheart, Otho J. James, on July 24, 1940. Otho was in the Army and they were stationed in several locations during WWII. After the war, they returned to Oklahoma, living in Norman, Oklahoma City, and then settling in Enid in 1950. To this union, two children were born, Charlie and Debbie. Virginia was a homemaker for many years, then went back to college, attending Phillips University and receiving her education degree. She taught fourth and fifth grades for 16 years at Garfield and Adams elementary schools. Virginia was an active member of Central Assembly of God Church since 1950, serving as a Sunday school teacher, and involved in Women's Ministries, Missionettes and Star Widows. After she retired from teaching, she volunteered many hours at Integris Bass Hospital. She was also an artist in her spare time, completing several oil paintings cherished by family members. Virginia and Otho were married for 67 years at his death in 2008. She is survived by son, Charlie James and wife Marvella of Newton, Kansas; daughter, Debbie DeWitt and husband Randy of Enid; six grandchildren, Charlie James Jr. and wife Becky of Pinckney, Michigan; Becky James of Nebraska City, Nebraska; Tim James of Olathe, Kansas; Ron James and wife Alisa of Manhattan, Kansas; Tara Batterman and husband Barry of Lahoma; and Kari Clark and husband MsGt Jeremy of Aviano AB, Italy; six great grandchildren, Hollyann Noyes, Makenzie Clark, Amberly Clark, Logan James, Blake Batterman and Alivia James; sister-in-law, Henrietta Goodwin; many nieces and nephews; and her "in-law sisters" Bonnie DeWitt and May Gentry. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Otho; sister, Edith Lee; and brother, Fred Goodwin. |
© Anderson~Burris Funeral Home Enid, Oklahoma February 2008 January 3, 1922 ~ February 6, 2008 A funeral service for Otho Junior James, 86, will be 10 am Monday, February 11, 2008 at Central Assembly of God Church with Pastor Kevin Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, with arrangements by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 to 6:30 pm Sunday at the funeral home. Otho was born January 3, 1922 in Bartlesville, OK to William O. and Myrtle James and died Wednesday, February 6th at Golden Oaks Nursing Home. He attended grade school in Bartlesville until age 9 when the family moved to Norman. He graduated from Norman High School and attended Oklahoma University until he was called to serve in World War II. He married Virginia M. Goodwin in July 1940. To this union two children were born, Charles Otho and Debra Kay. After the war he returned to Oklahoma University graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. The family moved to Enid in 1950 where he worked for Bert Smith Road Machinery CO for 28 years as Assistant secretary treasurer and senior Accountant. He later co-owned J.T. Truck Parts. After retiring, he stayed busy at his accounting and tax preparation home business. During World War II he served in the US Army Field Artillery, Army Ground Forces and was stationed in Pennsylvania and Fort Bragg, NC. He received his Army Reserve Commission in 1948 at ROTC at OU. Otho was the commanding officer of the Enid Quartermaster Company when discharged in July 1961 with the rank of Captain. As a member of Central Assembly of God church for 58 years, he served as deacon and church treasurer for 35 years. He taught Adult Sunday School class, assisted with Royal Rangers and was on several Building committees. Otho is survived by Virginia, his wife of 67 years, son Charles and his wife Marvella of Newton, KS, daughter Debbie DeWitt and her husband Randy of Enid; six grandchildren, Charles James, Jr and his wife Becky L. of Pinckney, MI, Becky James of Nebraska City, NE, Tim James of Olathe, KS, Ron James and his wife Alisa of Manhattan, KS, Tara Batterman and her husband Barry of Enid, and Kari Clark and her husband Jeremy of Okinawa, Japan; four great grandchildren, Hollyann Noyes, Makenzie Clark, Amberly Clark and Logan James; one brother, Vern James of Tulsa, OK; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ralph and Clem James, and one sister, Dolores Edenborough. Otho was a wonderful husband, dad, grandpa, and friend. He was a help to many people, always gracious to lend a guiding hand. |

The Rev Tom Donaldson will officiate. Burial will be in Baby Land in Memorial Park Cemetery. He was born November 30, 2006, to Jesse James and Desarae Headrick and died Thursday, November 30, 2006, in Enid. He is survived by his parents; one brother, Anthony; maternal grandparents, Joy Headrick and Gary Knouse; and paternal grandparents, Ernest and Linda James. |
