Hyke age 82 of Enid will be 9 am Saturday at the Ladusau-Evans Chapel with Rev Alan Seibel officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. Ed was born June 28, 1930 in San Diego, CA to Everette J. and Gertrude Elsner Hyke and passed away August 2, 2012 at his home after a period of ill health. He was raised in San Diego where he attended school. He entered into the U S Army in 1949 serving during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1952. Ed married Sonja Thompson on July 1, 1957 in Las Vegas. They moved to Enid in 1964 from Lincoln, Nebraska. He worked for Orkin as a supervisor until he started Hyke Pest Control in 1975 until the business was sold in 2000. Ed was a member of Davis Park Christian Church where he served as a Deacon for several years. He enjoyed camping and fishing with his friends and family. He enjoyed watching grandkids play football. He is survived by his wife Sonja of the home, son Steve Hyke of Enid, daughters Robbin McKinzie and husband Dennis of Enid, Lora Spangrud and husband Scott of Blue Springs, MO, 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents and step brother. Memorial may be given to Hospice Circle of Love with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of the fund. © Enid News and Eagle Enid, Oklahoma February 5, 2018 April 21, 1937 ~ February 3, 2018 Sonja was born at home in Goltry, Ok to William and Reta Thompson and passed away peacefully Saturday at her home in Enid. She was raised in Goltry before heading to California where she met her life long partner. She and Ed Hyke were married in Las Vegas on July 1, 1957. Sonja was greatly loved by those who knew her. Some of her favorite friends were her church family, card playing family, her neighbors, and can’t forget her fun dog park family. Sonja was known for her sweet and caring spirit. She was always surprised as to how many people loved her. One of her grandchildren said it best-she lived out the life of a humble servant. Just like her savior, she simply loved others. She especially loved her family both deeply and unconditionally. She is survived by her son, Steve Hyke and fiancé Chasity of Enid, her daughter Robbin McKinzie and husband Dennis of Enid, and daughter Lora Spangrud and husband Scott of St Cloud, Minn. eight grandchildren; Ashley Henning, Stacy Hyke, Colby Mckinzie, Shane Mckinzie, Beau Mckinzie, Amiee Spangrud, Nathan Spangrud, and Sara Spangrud, and eight great grandchildren. She was greeted in heaven by many special people as her husband, mother and father, 9 brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, and many friends all preceded her in death. As her family is grateful for her complete joy in heaven, she will be desperately missed on earth till one day soon we will see her again. A celebration is 2:00 pm, Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Oakwood Christian Church with Rev Alan Siebel officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. |
