© Enid Morning News Enid, Oklahoma Fewbruary 1979 July 7, 1894 ~ February 14, 1979 Ponca City – John L. "Roy" Horner, 84, died Wednesday in a Ponca City hospital. His service will be at 11 AM Friday in the Community Christian Church at Ponca City with Dr. Don Parsons officiating. Burial will be in Enid Memorial Park Cemetery at 2 PM Friday under the direction of E. M. Trout and Sons Funeral Home, Ponca City. Horner was born July 7, 1894, at McCune, Kansas, and married Eula James January 2, 1918. The couple lived near Hillsdale and moved to Hunter in 1935. In 1947, they moved to Garber and in 1972 to Ponca City. He was a retired farmer, veteran of World War I, serving with the United States Army, and a member of the Community Christian Church at Ponca City. Survivors include his wife, Eula; two sons, Marion, Colonial Heights, Virginia, and Don, Ponca City; one daughter, Verna Henson, Las Vegas, Nevada; nine grandchildren; 10 great – grandchildren; four sisters, Marie Meyer, Enid, Mildred Bengtson, Oklahoma City, Melva Bergman, Hunter, and Maude White, Enid; and one brother, Phillip, Enid. He was preceded in death by one brother. Memorials may be made to the Community Christian Church, Ponca City, with the church serving as custodian of the fund. |

She married John LeRoy Horner. Children: Verner, Infant, Marion, and Donald. |

© Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service Enid, Oklahoma July 2017 December 19, 1944 ~ July 24, 2017 Graveside services for Merl Dean Horner, 72, Enid, will be held on Friday, July 28, 2017 at 9:00 am in Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Steve Meier officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Silver Talon Honor Guard at Vance Air Force Base. Services are under the kind guidance of the Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service. Merl was born on December 19, 1944 in Vici, Oklahoma, the son of Ernest Everet and Ruby Pauline Hindman Horner, and passed away peacefully on July 24, 2017 in Oklahoma City. He was raised in Wichita, Kansas, graduating from West High School with the class of 1963. Merl served his country in the United States Air Force and married Kathern Joan Henson in Wichita, Kansas. They were stationed in Puerto Rico and retired in 1982 at Nelis Air Force Base, in North Las Vegas. After retirement, he graduated from Education Dynamics Institute and was offered a teaching job there. They then moved to Enid to be close to family. Merl worked at Advance Food Company from 1993, retiring in 2014. Merl was a member of USO. Survivors include his children, Sabrina Bays of Midwest City, Oklahoma, sons Dwayne Horner of Enid and Timothy Horner of Maryville, Tennessee; Brother, Donald Ray Horner of New York; sisters, Kay Horner and Geraldine Witzke, both of Enid. She was born on March 23, 1947 in Osie, Missouri, the daughter of Russell and Emet Marie Randall Henson, and passed away on February 7, 2017 in Midwest City. She grew up in Missouri, and on March 24, 1966, Kathern married Merl Dean Horner in Wichita, Kansas. They moved to Enid where she was employed as an assistant manager for Taco Bell. Survivors include her husband, Merl of the residence; daughter, Sabrina Bays of Midwest City, Oklahoma; sons, Dewayne Horner of Enid, and Timothy Horner of Tennessee; 5 grandchildren; Numerous siblings.
