© Enid Morning News Enid, Oklahoma January 1982 November 17, 1887 ~ December 29, 1981 Joseph P. Hooker, 94, 710 N. 10th, died early Tuesday morning in Costa Mesa, California. Funeral services will be at 2 PM Monday in the Cedar Ridge Wesleyan Church with the Rev Max Colaw officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Henninger-Allen Funeral Home. The family has suggested that expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of memorial fund contributions to the Bartlesville Wesleyan college with the funeral home serving as custodian. Hooker was born at Charley, Texas, November 17, 1887. As a child he moved with his parents to Gotebo. He married the former Neva Richardson in 1920 in Oklahoma City and she preceded him in death. He moved to Enid in 1926 and was employed by the City Water Department for a number of years and later employed for 17 years at the Enid State School in the powerhouse. July 25, 1936, he married the former Pearl Dague of Enid and she preceded him in death May 15, 1978. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Cedar Ridge Wesleyan church. He was also a member of the American Legion for 61 years. Survivors include three daughters: Mrs Jack [Helen] Remington of Costa Mesa, California, Mrs Bill [Marion] Thomas of Del Mar, California, and Mrs Linden [Maxin] Johnson of Mission Viejo, California; three sisters, Mrs Hazel Schultz of Purcell, Mrs Sylvia Crabtree of Binger, and Mrs Ernest [Casa D.] Chambers of Enid; seven grandchildren; 15 great – grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a sister and four brothers. |
Enid, Oklahoma May 15, 1978 July 8, 1900 ~ May 15, 1978 Mrs Joe [Pearl] Hooker, 77, 710 N. 10th, died late Monday after a period of ill health. Her funeral will be at 2 pm Thursday in the First Wesleyan Church with the Rev Max Colaw officiating. Buril will be in the Memorial Park cemetery. Mrs Hooker was born on July 8, 1900 in Wilson, Kansas, and moved with her parents to Oklahoma while a small child. The family settling in Carlisle, then moved to Enid in 1918. She and Joe Hooker were married here in 1936. Mrs Hooker was employed by the Central National Bank for a number of years before going to work for the Enid State School, where she retired a few years ago. She was a member of the First Wesleyan Church and the Order of Eastern Star. In addition to her husband Joe of the home, Mrs Hooker is survived by three stepdaughters, Mrs Marian [Bill] Thomas, Mrs Helen [Jack] Remington and Mrs Maxine [Londy] Johnson, all of California; two sisters, Mrs Eunice Ashmuhs and Mrs Ida Marie [Hugh] Bingham, both of Enid. Five brothers and two sisters died earlier. Those who wish may make contributions to the Bartlesville Wesleyan College in memory of Mrs Hooker. Contributions may be made through the church or the funeral home. |
