Virginia N. "Ginger" Holmes
1897 ~ August 28, 1980


Mrs Howard N. "Ginger" Holmes, 802 S. Hayes, died early Thursday in an Enid hospital.

Services will be at 10 AM Saturday in the First United Methodist Church with Doctor Irving Smith and the Rev Orville Parham officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery under direction of Brown Funeral Home.

Born at Wyandotte, she moved with her parents, Frances M. and Sardenia Dugan, to Beaver County at an early age.

In 1908 the family moved to a farm near Douglas, Kansas, and on June 26, 1919, she married Howard N. Holmes at Great Bend, Kansas.

The couple lived at Ellenwood, Kansas, for several months prior to moving to Wichita. They then lived in Omaha, Nebraska, for several years before moving to Enid in 1930, living here until moving to Fort Worth, Texas, in 1942. They returned to Enid in 1950.

Mrs Holmes was an active member of First United Methodist Church. She was also a life member of WSCS at Fort Worth.

Survivors include her husband, Howard N.; And two nieces, Mrs Jerry [Sandra Jo] Strickbine, Bartlesville, and Mrs Roger [Jeane] Landry, Marathon, Florida.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church.

Geraldine K. "Jerri" [Knarr] Holmes
December 25, 1938 ~ February 17, 2022


The memorial service for Geraldine "Jerri" Kay Holmes, 83 year-old Enid resident is 2:00 PM Saturday, February 26, 2022 in the Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel. Rev Dr John Toles officiating. A private burial will precede the memorial.

Jerri was born on Christmas Day of 1938 to Ralph W. Knarr and Beatrice (Tennant) Knarr in Enid, Oklahoma.

She attended Enid schools and graduated from Enid High School with the class of 1957. She then attended college in Alton, Illinois.

In 1958 she married George E. Holmes. The couple made their first home in Lamar, Colorado before returning to Enid to raise their four children.

Jerri owned and operated Ernestines with her dear friend Kay Weldon. Later she reopened the business as Geraldines.

She was a long-time member of Saint Matthew's Episcopal Church where she taught Sunday School.

She was a dedicated member of PEO Chapter Q for 51 years, as well as The Junior Welfare League. She volunteered at the YWCA where she taught crafting class and was very involved with all of her children's activities.

Jerri was preceded in death by her husband George and parents Ralph and Bea Knarr.

She is survived by her children, Elizabeth [Marty] Andreas of Hilton Head, SC; Brent [Cheryl] Holmes of Enid; Angel [Rusty] Turner of Enid; and Matt [Natalie] Holmes also of Enid. She was blessed with six grandchildren, Michelle Decker, Angela Chambers, Tanner Holmes, Blake Holmes, Garrott Holmes and Bryce Crowl; and six great-grandchildren, Alexxis Andreas, Baylin Andreas, Sophia Andreas, Colton Decker, Jaxon Chambers, and Riley Chambers.

Jerri dearly loved all those she left behind, including a host of friends.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made through Henninger-Hinson to the Enid SPCA.
