Herman Franklin Hackett was born October 2, 1933, to Andy O. and Eula G. Hackett at their farm home near Trousdale. He departed this life on Monday, January 6, 2014, at Greenbrier Village surrounded by his family and faithful, loving employees.

He graduated from Trousdale High School. He immediately went to work for the State of Oklahoma Highway Department.

He married Gail Trousdale on June 27, 1953, in Asher, Okla. Three children were born to this union: Steven Craig, Lori Diann and Alison Renee. They made their first home in Shawnee.

Herman served two years with the United States Army, 10th Infantry Division. They lived for a short time in Fort Riley, Kansas, and then Herman served a 22-month tour of duty in Germany. Following his service in Germany, Herman and Gail established a home in Tecumseh.

Herman graduated from the Oklahoma Barber College and ran Hackett Barber Shop for 12 years. During that period, he was involved in real estate development and ranching. He also owned a Family Recreation Center. He served as Mayor of Tecumseh for two terms. There, he received a citation from Governor Bartlett for Outstanding Community Service. The Tecumseh Chamber of Commerce presented him with the Outstanding Citizen Award. He was a member of the Tecumseh Rotary Club of which he served as president; a member of the Chamber of Commerce; and a member of Central Oklahoma Economic Development Commission.

He also was ordained a deacon at the First Baptist Church of Tecumseh, where he taught in the youth department and served as Sunday School Director.

In 1988, Herman and Gail opened Oxygen Oklahoma North. They sold that business five years later. In 1992, they purchased Burgundy Inc., which contains 66 apartments for independent living for retirees. In 1996, Herman and his wife built Greenbrier Residential Assisted Living on the same campus as the nursing home. He has since added a Skilled Unit, a large dining hall, now known as Rose Garden Cafe, plus a pharmacy to the campus.

After moving to Enid, Herman helped organize the Northwest Oklahoma Health Care Association and the Garfield County Ombudsman Program. He was an inspector for the Peer Review Board for 10 years, and then served on the State Long Term Care Advisory Board for 12 years. Mr. Hackett also served on the original State Board for Room and Board Homes. He served four terms on the Board of the State Nursing Home Association.

Governor Keating appointed Mr. Hackett to serve as the lay representative on the Professional Responsibility Tribunal for the State Bar Association, where he served two terms.

Herman always had a great interest in ways to preserve energy. As a result, he became one of the first businesses to use ground source energy for a large health care facility. As a result, O.G&E. in conjunction with O.S.U. have used the Enid business to gather data and information for other businesses.

Herman was a member of Enid Chamber of Commerce and was selected as the Citizen of the Year in 2009, and was a finalist for the Enid News and Eagle Pillar of the Plans award in 2010.

In the past, he was a member of Lions Club, Gideons and had served on the Great Plains Boy Scout Council. He regularly sponsored Little League baseball and soft ball programs.
