Harold Gunning, 68, resident of Cordell, Okla., was born Dec. 7, 1942, in Muskogee, Okla., to Alfred and Zulema (Hernandez) Gunning and passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2011, in Cordell, Okla. Harold was born in Muskogee and raised in Enid. He attended Enid schools. Harold joined the United States Army in 1959, just before his 18th birthday. He was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, and served in Korea.

Harold returned home to Enid in 1963. He married Doris Floyd Feb. 15, 1964, in Enid. Harold had worked for ODOT for 17 years. He started Harold Gunning Surveying in 1978 in Cordell. Harold was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was a charter member of Oklahoma Society of Land Surveyors. Harold enjoyed antique cars and attending swap meets. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Zulema Gunning. Survivors include his wife, Doris Gunning of the home; one daughter, Stephanie Hamilton and husband Clayton of Fayetteville, Ark.; one son, Gregory Gunning and wife Chasity of Cordell, Okla.; two brothers, Jerry Gunning and Larry Gunning and wife Janell, all of Enid, Okla.; and four grandchildren.

Funeral service for Harold Gunning will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2011, at First Baptist Church, Cordell, Okla., with Rev. Marvin Kehl officiating and Sean Estes assisting. Burial will be 1 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2011, in Memorial Park Cemetery, Enid, Okla., under the direction of Musick-Varner Funeral Home, Cordell, Okla.
