[Wilkinson] Gunning, age 93 years, of Enid, is 2:00 pm, Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Garland Road Baptist Church with Pastor Billy Benson officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, May 28, 2019 in Memorial Park Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. Mary was born December 26, 1925 in Oilton, Oklahoma to Jesse and Alta [Isaac] Wilkinson, and passed away Saturday, May 18, 2019 in Lewisville, Texas. She graduated from Cherokee High School in 1943. She worked at Cessna Aircraft Factory in Wichita, Kansas; The Prisoner of War Camp at Alva, OK; Enid Army Base, and Gold Spot Dairy. She was united in marriage to L. Hinson Gunning on August 18, 1946. To this union was born two daughters, Cherie Ann and Kathy Denise. She was an office manager for Dr Buvinger until her retirement in 1987. Mary was very active in the community; she joined the Excelsior Chapter of the American Business Women's Association, holding several offices, including President in 1985-1986. She was a founding member of Garland Road Baptist Church where she was active in many capacities. She taught Sunday school, helped prepare meals for the Wednesday night dinners, and volunteered at Integris Bass Baptist Hospital, where she was a life member of the Integris Bass Baptist Hospital Auxiliary. In 2017 she was awarded the Volunteer of the Year Award by RSVP of Enid. She was an avid golfer and belonged to the Meadowlake Women's Golf Association. She and Hinson enjoyed camping and square dancing. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Hinson Gunning; son-in-law Tom Laird; one sister, and three brothers. She is survived by her two daughters, Cherie Laird of El Paso, TX; Kathy Throckmorton and husband Rick, of Lewisville, TX; five grandchildren, Traci Laird Kilmer and husband Don, of El Paso, TX; Lisa Munoz and husband Boone, of Sanger, TX; Brad Laird and wife Andrea, of El Paso, TX; Bria Pagliaro and husband Jonathan, of Tracy, CA; Colin Throckmorton and wife Susanna, of Newark, TX; and six great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mary's name may be made to Garland Road Baptist Church with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds. © Enid News and Eagle Enid, Oklahoma February 17, 2008 April 28, 1926 ~ February 14, 2008 Barbara Louise Gray Gunning departed this life on Valentines Day, February 14, 2008, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, following 82 years enriched by the love of God, family and friends. Barbara was born the youngest of four children to William Otis Gray and Lillian Haupt Gray on April 28, 1926, in Independence, Kansas. Barbara moved with her family from Independence to Winfield, Kansas during grade school, then on to Enid, Oklahoma in 1941, where she graduated from Enid High in 1944. She met James E. "Jay" Gunning in high school, and they married on October 1, 1944, just prior to his deployment in the Navy during World War II. Upon his discharge, Barb and Jay attended the University of Oklahoma, each earning Bachelor of Accounting degrees in 1950. Following graduation, Barb and Jay returned to Enid where they shared with family the ownership and management of Gray’s clothing store for the next twenty years. After the birth of their first child, Barbara stayed home to raise their children, Beverly Kay Gunning Pax, Robert James Gunning, Jeffery Jay Gunning, and Christopher Ross Gunning. Barbara was a founding member of the Chi Beta Child Study Club, and enjoyed the wide circle of friendship of its members throughout her adult life. She was proud to have served on a local education committee in the late 1950s, working to incorporate kindergarten classes into public schools in Enid. She and Jay were charter members of Christ United Methodist Church, founded in 1954, where her faith and love of God matured over the next fifty years. In 1971, after living for a year in Charlotte, North Carolina, Barbara and Jay were divorced and Barb returned to Enid with Jeff and Chris, while Beverly and Bob attended OU. Barb spent the next twenty years working for the Garfield County Clerk’s office, Davis Abstract Company, and finally the city of Enid Administrative offices, from which she retired in 1991. Barbara spent the majority of her retirement years in Enid enjoying the company of her friends, Chi Beta sisters, and her brother Jim Gray and his wife Dorothy. She made frequent trips to visit her children and grandchildren in Denver, Atlanta, Dallas and Albuquerque, and enjoyed their visits home to Enid. Following health problems that developed in 2003, she moved to Albuquerque to be closer to her son Chris and his family. While in Albuquerque, Barb attended Monte Vista Christian Church, and was a resident of Woodmark at Uptown and Manzano del Sol. Surviving immediate family members are Beverly and Fred Pax, of Denver and their children Alyson, Ryon and Nic; her son, Bob and his wife Sheryl, of Atlanta and their children Jordan and Loren; her son, Jeff and his wife Karen, of Dallas and their children Kate and Emma; and her son, Chris and his wife Andrea, of Albuquerque and their children Amelia and Aaron. Surviving nephews and nieces include Jim Clement, Bill Clement, Anne Clement Scott, Jean Clement Johnson, and Suzanne Stolzer Fate. She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Margaret Gray Clement, James W. Gray and Katherine Gray Stolzer, and their spouses, one nephew, George Branson Gray, and one grandchild, Oliver Gray Pax. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, February 19, at Christ United Methodist Church in Enid, with Rev Jim Jones officiating, followed by a family burial service at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of the fund. |
© Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service Enid, Oklahoma June 2023 April 2, 1930 ~ June 4, 2023 Funeral services for Mary Christine Gunning, 93, Enid resident, will be held at 10:00 am Friday, June 9, 2023, in the Stittsworth Memory Chapel with Pastor Jesse Johnson officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the kind guidance of the Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service. Mary was born on April 2, 1930, in Warren, Arkansas, the daughter of Lun Mills and Birdie Lee Armstrong Mills, and passed away peacefully on June 4, 2023, in Enid. Mary came to Enid in 1950 along with her family. She married Ronald Gunning in 1952. He preceded her in passing in 2007. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran and Trinity Baptist Church. Mary worked at Wedding Photography Paler, later, Mary became a beauty operator having a shop in her residence. Although she had no children, she helped raise several sisters, brothers nieces and nephews. Mary is survived by loving sisters, Darlene Hillary of Enid, and Barbara Duncan of Enid; brother, LT Mills of Los Angeles, California; many nieces and nephews. © Enid News and Eagle Enid, Oklahoma May 6, 2011 December 7, 1942 ~ May 4, 2011 Harold Gunning, 68, resident of Cordell, Okla., was born December 7, 1942, in Muskogee, Okla., to Alfred and Zulema [Hernandez] Gunning and passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2011, in Cordell, Okla. Harold was born in Muskogee and raised in Enid. He attended Enid schools. Harold joined the United States Army in 1959, just before his 18th birthday. He was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, and served in Korea. Harold returned home to Enid in 1963. He married Doris Floyd February 15, 1964, in Enid. Harold had worked for ODOT for 17 years. He started Harold Gunning Surveying in 1978 in Cordell. Harold was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was a charter member of Oklahoma Society of Land Surveyors. Harold enjoyed antique cars and attending swap meets. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Zulema Gunning. Survivors include his wife, Doris Gunning of the home; one daughter, Stephanie Hamilton and husband Clayton of Fayetteville, Ark.; one son, Gregory Gunning and wife Chasity of Cordell, Okla.; two brothers, Jerry Gunning and Larry Gunning and wife Janell, all of Enid, Okla.; and four grandchildren. Funeral service for Harold Gunning will be 2 pm Friday, May 6, 2011, at First Baptist Church, Cordell, Okla., with Rev Marvin Kehl officiating and Sean Estes assisting. Burial will be 1 pm Saturday, May 7, 2011, in Memorial Park Cemetery, Enid, Okla., under the direction of Musick-Varner Funeral Home, Cordell, Okla. |

Arrangements are under the kind guidance of the Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service. Jerry was born on July 7, 1944 to Alfred and Zulema Gunning, and passed away on May 29, 2020. Jerry was born and raised in Enid. He joined the Air Force and served for three years at multiple bases. He returned to Enid and worked for George E Failing for 38 years. Jerry enjoyed tinkering on vehicles and enjoyed time with his family. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Zulema and his brother Harold Gunning. Survivors include his brother, Larry Gunning; daughter Barbara Ann Powers and her husband Jerry, his son Jerry Lynn Gunning, 2 grandsons Dustin Gunning and Ben Powers, 2 great grand daughters Katherine and Marissa Gunning. |
