The Celebration of Life for Harvey Winton Grimes, 86, Keller, Texas, formerly of Enid, will be 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, at Carrier Congregational United Church with Pastor Dan O'Daniel officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 8, 2009, at Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle who passed away Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009, at his daughter Mary Jean's home in Keller, Texas, where he had resided with her for the past two years.

Harvey was born April 7, 1922, in Mesita, Colo., to Russell and Viva Grimes. He graduated from Hayward High School in 1939. After high school, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps.

On Aug. 3, 1941, he married Frances Evans. They farmed and raised their family in the Hillsdale /Carrier communities and in 1990 moved to North Enid. He was a board member of Far-Gas Co-operative and was a crop insurance salesman. He was a deacon and member of Carrier Congregational United Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 58 years, Frances; his son, Randy; and his brothers, George and R.B. His family was his proudest accomplishment, his legacy. He put us first even to the very end and thanked us every day.

Fond memories of "Poppo" will live forever in the hearts of his daughter, Mary Jean Thompson, Keller, Texas; three granddaughters, Laurie Rice and her husband Robert of Keller, Texas, Leslie Hilberth and her husband, Brian of Dallas, Texas, and Tanna Hundley and her husband John Jr. of Dove Canyon, Calif.; seven great-grandchildren, Evan, Lane and Reid Rice; Blake, Brody and Brooks Hilberth; and Haley Hodges. His daughter-in-law, Phyllis Grimes and her family. His brothers and their wives, Roy and Dessie Grimes, Charles and Paulette Grimes, Harlan and Jean Grimes; and his sisters, Alice Boeken and her husband Floyd and Carol Klein. His nieces and nephews and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Harvey's name to Feed the Children or American Heart Association.

Condolences may be made online at brown-cummings.com.
