ENID - Arvilla Valentine Keever Goebel, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away June 11, 2013, at Homes of Greenbrier, Enid, OK.

Arvilla was born February 14, 1920, in Lebanon, KS, to Alfred and Avis Gilbert Keever. She was the oldest of 10 children, all of whom survive her.

Arvilla graduated from high school in 1937 and taught at rural schools for five years.

She married Kenneth R. Goebel June 22, 1942, in Enid, OK, where Kenneth was stationed for the opening of Vance Air Force Base. To this marriage, four children were born, a son and three daughters.

Kenneth and Arvilla were identified with one another so completely, it is impossible to speak of one without speaking of the other. Throughout their marriage, Kenneth and Arvilla were employed by several historic businesses in Enid. Together, they were employed by Longbell Lumber Company for several years. After devoting a large part of her marriage to homemaking, Arvilla ended her work life in employment with Winchell?s Donut Shop, where she was able to showcase her baking expertise.

Family was the most important part of Arvilla?s life. She lived an understated life, but the pride she felt for her children as they became worthwhile members of their communities could not be suppressed. As their grandchildren began to arrive, Arvilla spent a significant amount of time helping to care for them and participating in their lives. Even as great-grandchildren arrived, her love for family never diminished or faded.

Arvilla was not only a terrific cook, specializing in noodle-making, she also loved gardening and bird-watching. One summer, she?d planted some Hawaiian flower seeds she?d ordered from a catalog. After they grew to maturity, traffic along the street in front of her home would slow or stop completely to enjoy the beautiful sight. Hummingbirds and all types of songbirds loved visiting her immaculate yard.

Kenneth passed away in 2004.

She is survived by her children, Gary Goebel and wife, Charlotte of Norman, OK; Cheryl LaRowe of Enid, OK; Carol Broughton and husband, Mitch of Hennessey, OK; and Gale Palmer and husband, David of Enid, OK. She also is survived by three grandsons, five granddaughters, four great-grandsons and three great-granddaughters. Also surviving are her five brothers and four sisters, Leota Arment, Oleta Pixler, Iris Rhoades and Walter Keever of Smith Center, KS; Marion Keever of Bartlesville, OK; Alvin Keever of Atchison, KS; Ora Keever of Albert Lea, MN; Rosalee Gutscher of Minneapolis, KS; and Richard Keever of Russell, KS.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2013, in Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation with family will precede the service, beginning at 1:30, and also will be available after the service. Arvilla will lie in rest next to the love of her life, Kenneth, at Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Circle of Love, 314 S. 3rd, Enid, OK.
