Bruce Lee Godfrey, 81, 1514 Gammon, died Friday evening in a local hospital after a brief illness.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Friday in Brown funeral home Chapel with Doctor Irving L. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Godfrey was born May 12, 1900, in El Reno, Oklahoma territory, and at an early age moved with his parents to Enid. He attended Enid high school.

Godfrey was a master electrician by trade and owned the Godfrey Electric Service. He also served in the United States Army during World War I.

On May 11, 1924, he and Madonna Bovell were married. The family moved to Beeville, Texas, in 1955 where he worked at Chase Naval Air base until his retirement in 1966. In 1971, the couple returned to Enid.

Godfrey was a member of the first United Methodist Church, Enid Lodge No. 80, AF & A.M., Guthrie Consistory and Independent Order of Odd Fellows No. 31.

Survivors include two sons, Bruce Lee "Jerry" Godfrey Junior., Lincolnshire, England, and George W. "Swede" Godfrey, of the home; two grandchildren; and two great – grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Madonna, February 21, 1981.

Memorials may be made in his name to Masonic Home at Guthrie with the funeral home serving as custodian of the fund.

The casket will be open until service time.
