Funeral service for Sidney D. Gilbreath, 77-year-old Enid, Okla., resident will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015, at Calvary Baptist Church. Pastor Steve Williams will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home. Visitation with the family is 5-7 p.m. today, Sept. 29, at Henninger-Hinson Chapel.

Sid was born April 30, 1938, in Collinsville, Ala., to Sidney and Virby (Pendergrass) Gilbreath and went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015.

He attended school in Alabama and graduated from high school with the class of 1956.

He served his country in the United States Air Force.

In 1962, he married Cynthia Birdwell in Texas. In 1964, the couple move to Enid, where Sidney worked as a jet engine mechanic and balancing specialist at Vance AFB, retiring in 2008. He received numerous awards for his work with Northrop.

He was a dedicated member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school secretary since 1975. He also enjoyed driving the church bus. He was a lifetime donor to the Oklahoma Blood Institute. In his earlier years, Sid loved to ride his 10-speed and was in a bicycle club. He received the President’s Award for riding over 10,000 miles presented by Richard M. Nixon.

He is survived by two sons, S. Todd Gilbreath and wife Beckie and Kenny Gilbreath and wife Jennifer; two grandsons, Benjamin Gilbreath and Jordan Gilbreath; one brother, JR Gilbreath and wife Shirley; two nieces, Tina and Sherrie; four great-nephews; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 51 years, Cynthia, in 2013; several aunts; and a grandson, Kaleb.

Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church (Logston Fund) through Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.
