© Enid News and Eagle Enid, Oklahoma January 2002 April 19, 1913 ~ January 5, 2002 Graveside services for Louise Garrison, 88 year old Enid resident, will be today, January 8, 2002 at 2 PM in Memorial Park Cemetery with Reverend Alan Seibel officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Henninger-Allen Funeral Home. Louise was born on April 19, 1913 in Fletcher, Oklahoma to Lona and Arch Buxton and died on January 5, 2002 in Enid. She married Robert W. Garrison on August 24, 1932 and they made their home in Enid. Louise was a homemaker until the death of her husband in 1959. She then attended Enid Business College and worked for Craig and Pierce Plumbing and O. L. Stith until her retirement. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, three brothers, and one sister. She is survived by two children, Stan Garrison of Midland, Texas and Saundra Knox of Enid; three sisters, Nadine Woy, Enid, LaFon Morris of Wichita, Kansas, and Juanita Nobles of Polson, Montana; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends. She was a special mother and loving grandmother. |
© Enid News and Eagle Enid, Oklahoma August 31, 2022 December 11, 1939 ~ August 25, 2022 Marilyn Louise Garrison was born on December 11, 1939, to Carl Ray and Cora Juanita Castetter in Indianapolis, Indiana. She passed from this life on August 25, 2022, in Hennessey, Oklahoma, at the age of 82. She met Rev Jack Garrison at a UPCI General Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana, and they began dating in 1958. They married October 29, 1965, and were married for almost 56 years. Marilyn attended the Calvary Tabernacle Christian School and was the school's first graduate in 1958. While attending Calvary Tabernacle, Marilyn was an active member of the choir and a women's trio directed by Brother Hugh Rose. She was a gifted vocalist and pianist, learning from her role model Sister Jean Urshan. After graduation, Marilyn worked in the offices of The United States Navy until 1965 when she married Rev Jack Garrison and relocated to Enid, Oklahoma. As a new pastor's wife, she fell in love with the city of Enid and its people. She poured herself into the work of Lord: leading the music in the church, directing plays and musicals, teaching classes and Bible studies, making and delivering peanut brittle, visiting the sick, picking up kids for Sunday School, overseeing church fundraisers, banquets and dinners, and faithfully standing beside her husband and pastor at every Youth Rally, Fellowship Meeting and other sectional and district events. Marilyn worked and served in the Enid community for most of her life. She was employed full-time at the Social Security Administration office as a claims analyst. She retired from the SSA office with 20-plus years of service. While working full-time, serving as a Pastor's wife, and raising three children, she also found time to volunteer. She volunteered her time delivering Meals on Wheels and regularly volunteered with the Oklahoma Election Board. Not only did she serve her local church, but she served the Oklahoma District United Pentecostal Church, as well, from teaching classes at youth camp, overseeing the concession stand grill at camp meeting, directing the camp choir, selling sno cones, helping in the kitchen, cleaning the dorms. She was not afraid of work, and her hand was busy in areas all over the campground and the state. For many years she served the ladies in the Oklahoma District. First, she served as the Section Six Ladies Ministries Secretary, then as the Section Six Ladies Ministries President. Then she was elected as the Oklahoma District Ladies Ministries Secretary, and a few years later was elected as the Oklahoma District Ladies Ministries President. She served on the Ladies Retreat Committee, planned district ladies meetings, and Mother's Memorial Rallies. She was always thinking of ways to raise money for their causes: appliances for missionary wives, birthday cards for missionary kids, stocking the camp store and constant improvements on the campground. The poem she wrote for one such fundraiser, "Pennies Please," is remembered by many. Those left to cherish Marilyn's memory are her three daughters: Carla [Mike] Humphrey of Plymouth, IN, Vonda [Danny] Jones of Broken Arrow, OK, and Devra [Quentin] Boyd of Owasso, OK; her nine grandchildren: Tyler, Mykelle, Jarryn, and Carson Humphrey; Morgan, Conner and Madison Jones, Jackson and Colton Boyd; her two great-grandchildren: Ellie Grace and Ezra Leon; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father Carl Castetter; her mother Cora Castetter; two brothers: Marion Castetter and Ronald Castetter; her husband of 55 years, Jack Garrison; and grandson Kendall Jones. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, September 3, 2022, at Oakwood Christian Church. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. The family would like to thank you for your love, support and prayers during this difficult time. Garrison, 96, Enid, is 2 pm Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at Central Christian Church with the Rev John Wheeler and the Rev Don Johnson officiating. Burial of the cremains follows in Memorial Park Cemetery, with arrangements by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home and Crematory. Mary was born December 13, 1920, in Indianapolis, Ind., to Edgar and Ethel Hensley Shelton, and passed away Sunday, July 9, 2017, in Enid. She graduated from Warren Central High School, and attended Johnson Bible College. She married the Rev Carlton D. Garrison on September 12, 1940, in Indiana. In their 62 years of marriage, they made their home in the various sites of Carlton's pastorates, including Enid, Ponca City, Oklahoma City, Kingfisher, Kansas, Texas, and Indiana. Mary enjoyed traveling, water skiing, sewing, crocheting, and working on her computer. She was a member of Central Christian Church, and was honored as Mother of The Year, and was active in C.W.F. She was also a long time member of PEO. She is survived by two sons, James Garrison and wife Deborah of Albuquerque, N.M., John Garrison and wife Amy of Edmond, two daughters, Barbara Garrison and partner Bonnie McLean of Anchorage, Alaska, and Janet Garrison Steffen of Shawnee; nine grandchildren, Kristin Garrison and Dan Vaitkus, Joanne Tippeconnic, David Garrison, Rachel and Ben Nelson, Valerie and Lewie Foltz, Kyle Steffen, Sarah and Jason Majors, Tommy and Allie Garrison, Jacob and Miranda Garrison, and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, and two brothers. Memorials may be made to Central Christian Church, with Anderson-Burris serving as custodian of the fund. Garrison, 86, of Enid, will be 10 am Friday, July 19, 2013, at Brown-Cummings Funeral Home Chapel. Rev Gary Miller will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home. He was born March 8, 1927, in Blair, Okla., to the late Herbert and Elizabeth Garrison and passed away peacefully Monday, July 15, 2013, at home, with his family surrounding him with love. He lived a happy life on the farm with four brothers and one sister, before marrying Joyce Laverne Quillin on July 10, 1947, in Altus, Okla. Norman worked at Tim's Funeral Home in Altus, and as a police officer in Lawton before moving to Enid and spending many years at Tydings Wholesale and Larry's Amusement. He also drove an ambulance for Enid Speedway. Norman retired in 1994, and spent the rest of his life restoring antique cars and perusing his love of Corvettes. His knowledge of automobiles was always shared in helping his family and friends when needed. Norman is survived by one brother, Alvin Garrison of Oklahoma City; daughter, Connie Williams of Norman; sons, Ron and Mark Garrison, both of Enid; seven grandchildren, Shawn, Kole, Mark, Tana, Lanai, Aaron and Cory; nine great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild, Karder. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Laverne Garrison; son-in-law, Kenneth Williams in 2010; brothers, Leon, Clarence and Doyce; and sister, Edith. A very special thank you to his care giver, Carla; The Arbors Assisted Living Center; and Circle of Love Hospice. Altus, Oklahoma June 15, 1992 June 8, 1928 ~ June 8, 1992 Enid - Funeral services for Joyce Laverne Garrison were held at 2 pm Friday at Anderson-King Funeral Home Chapel in Enid, Officiating was the Rev Alvin Garrison and Harold Humphrey. Burial followed at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Edin. Garrison, 64, died Monday, June 8 in Kenwood Manor Nursing Homd in Enid fter a long period of ill heslth. She was born June 8, 1928 in Dill to Lee and Truly Leeper Quillin and she attended school in Cordell. She married Norman Garrison on July 10, 1945 in Wichita Falls, Texas. They liuved in Altus where Mr Garrison was employed at Tims Funeral Home before they moved to Lawton and then on to Enid in 1952. Mr Garrison worked for 16 years zs a floor nurse for Dr W. Mercer and later for Dr D. C. Karns. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband of the home, two sons, Ron Garrison and Mark Garrison, both of Enid; a daughter, Connie Williams, Normn: two sisters, Shirley of Oklahoma City; and Goldie Welty of Enid; five brothjers, James Quillin of Californi, Grady Quillin of Coorado; Ricky, Glen and Kenneth Quillin, all of Chickasha; seven grandchildren abd two gret grandchildren. |
© Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Enid, Oklahoma September 2021 January 1, 1936 ~ September 29, 2021 Rev Jack Carl Garrison "G-Man" was born January 1, 1936 to James Edward and Grace Ellen Garrison in Claremore, Oklahoma. He passed from this life on September 29, 2021, in Enid, Oklahoma, at the age of 85. He met Marilyn Castetter at a UPCI General Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana, and they began dating in 1958. They married October 29, 1965, and were one month shy of their 56th anniversary. He loved to tell the story of how they met. He saw a striking young woman in a telephone booth, wearing a green beret. His good friend introduced them, and the rest is history. Jack graduated from Claremore High School in 1955. Shortly thereafter, he began evangelizing full time with his two friends, Rev William C. Parkey and Rev Robert Gilstrap. He came to Enid, Oklahoma to pastor the United Pentecostal Church in 1964, and remained in this pastorship until May 2020. He loved the city of Enid. He loved his church. He began his teaching career at Enid High School in 1973 and taught American History and Great American Documents until his retirement in 2000. He was passionate about teaching, and is still affectionately known by his former students and co-workers as "G-Man." He loved his students, and they loved him in return. So much that they founded the "G-Club", where they created their own t-shirts, and sold them as a fund-raiser for several years. In 1994 he was honored with the Life Example Award from Enid High School. Jack loved the gospel. He loved to preach. And he loved being in church, in having been in Sunday School "every single, solitary Sunday" for more than 60 consecutive years, until his health began to fail him. He served in many different capacities within the Oklahoma District of the United Pentecostal Church, and throughout the organization: He was the Editor of the Beacon; Presbyter of Section 6. He served on the board at Tupelo Children's Mansion; was a member of the Word Aflame Curriculum Committee; and served as an Adjunct Professor at Urshan Graduate School of Theology. He also conducted Prison Ministry services at Crabtree Correctional Center in Helena, Ok for many years. He loved learning, and was a life-long student, earning a Bachelor's Degree, 3 Master's Degrees and finally, his Doctorate at the age of 62, with a PhD in Divinity from Phillip's University. His wife was once questioned as to what his major was, to which she replied, "Hours." He loved sports. He was an avid Brooklyn Dodger's fan, and had dreamed of becoming a catcher for them, until his path changed, and he felt called to the ministry. He loved the University of Oklahoma Sooners. And he loved his Claremore Zebras. In his words, "Once a Zebra, always a Zebra." Throughout the years, you could find him playing handball regularly at the YMCA, which was a sport he became very good at, snagging multiple trophies and championships throughout the years. He was a great storyteller. To this day, anyone who took his American History class will tell you about him teaching his version of the Lincoln Assassination. Because he didn't just tell the facts, he acted them out. He loved literature, with a home library the size of Oklahoma. He was an incredible writer, and ultimately co-authored the book, "Claiming the Land." He knew no strangers, and if you saw him in Braums on his last Sunday on earth, he probably walked up to you, just to ask if you had once attended Enid High School. He loved the United States of America, and was patriotic to his core. His only regret was that he never served his country. He had many passions in life, but second to God, there was nothing that he loved more than his family, His wife, his daughters, his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He even grew to love his "wife's" sons-in-law. Those left to cherish Jack's memory are his wife, Marilyn L. Garrison, of the home; his three daughters: Carla [Mike] Humphrey of Plymouth, IN; Vonda [Danny] Jones of Broken Arrow, OK; and Devra [Quentin] Boyd of Owasso, OK. His nine grandchildren: Tyler, Mykelle, Jarryn and Carson Humphrey; Morgan, Conner and Madison Jones; Jackson and Colton Boyd. His two great grandchildren: Ellie Grace and Ezra Leon. One brother, Tommy Garrison of Owasso, OK, a sister, Mary Nichols of Oklahoma City, OK; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Jimmy Garrison; his mother Grace Garrison; two brothers: Johnny Garrison, and Leroy Garrison; a sister Emma Garrison; and grandson Kendall Jones A Celebration of Life will be held for Jack at 11:00 am, Monday, October 11, 2021 at Oakwood Christian Church; 401 N Oakwood Rd; Enid, OK. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Sunday, October 10, 2021 from 3:00-5:00 pm, at the Enid United Pentecostal Church 1168 E Chestnut Ave. The family would like to thank you for your love, support and prayers during this difficult time.
