Richard B. "Dick" Garren, 75, Shawnee, went to his heavenly reward at his home on Saturday, Dec. 24, 2016. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016, at Shawnee Christian Church with Tommy Smith officiating. Burial is 3 p.m. in Memorial Park Cemetery, Enid. Walker Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements. The family has designated Shawnee Christian Church or the American Cancer Society as appropriate for memorials.

Dick was born July 3, 1941, in Enid to Mary L. & Glen Garren. He attended Enid High School, Phillips University, OSU, and Texas University, where he earned his Doctor of Education. He worked for the State of Oklahoma for 24 years as an administrator in Enid, Tahlequah and Tecumseh. On April 1, 1983, he married Robin R. Garren. They were married for 33 years. He served in the United States Navy. He was a long-time member of Shawnee Christian Church, where he was very active and loved his church family.

Dick was the author of "Our Life in His Hands" and "Thirty-seven Cents and a Prayer." The family says a special thanks to Dr. David Holland and Heartland Hospice.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Shannon McAnally.

Survivors include his wife, Robin Garren of the home; sons and daughters-in-Law: Randall & Yolanda Garren, and Kendall & Cheryl Garren; daughter & son-in-Law: Brandy & Rob Bowie; grandchildren: Victoria Garren, Brittany Cadena, Kaleb Mossner, Danacun Broomfield, Skyler McAnally, Elizabeth Spring, Trey Bowie, Collin Bowie and Malcolm Bowie; and several great-grandchildren; siblings: Glenda Snyder and husband Ron; Gary Garren, M.P. (Pete) Garren; and longtime friend: Jerry Williams.
