Celebration of Life service for Lucille Latta Garis, 89-year-old Enid, Okla., resident, will be 1 p.m. Friday, June 26, 2015, at First Baptist Church. Dr. James Weidman will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home. Visitation with the family is 5-7 p.m. Thursday, June 25, at Henninger-Hinson Chapel, 601 W. Broadway.

Lucille was born April 16, 1926, in Pollard, Ark., to Charles Robert Latta and Delia Bell (Thompson) Latta and died Saturday, June 20, 2015, at The Commons.

She attended high school at Piggot, Ark. She took the Arkansas state teacher’s exam and taught for five years while attending SBC at Pocahontas, Ark., and Arkansas State College at Jonesboro.

On April 13, 1946, she married Virgil Andrew Garis. To this union, four children were born.

After moving to Enid in 1950, she was a homemaker and later began working at Bass Hospital as an LPN. She was in the first LPN class at Autry Vo-Tec. Her favorite places to work in the hospital were surgery, obstetrics and pediatrics. She retired in 1989 after almost 30 years.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Womens’ Missionary Union and a teacher of the T.E.L. Sunday school class for several years.

She is survived by her children, Charlotte Weaver, Thomas Garis, and Timothy Garis and wife Terese; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded by her husband, Virgil Garis, her parents, one daughter, three brothers, one sister and two granddaughters.

Memorials may be made to FBC (Next Generations) through Henninger-Hinson.
