Philip was born January 22, 1947, in Enid to R.D. and Dortha (Burnett) Gainey and died Sunday, January 28, 2024, in St. Francis Hospital, Tulsa.

He attended local schools and graduated from Enid High School with the class of 1965. He then attended Northwestern University. He enlisted in the U.S. Naval reserves and then went into active duty. While home from boot camp, he married Bonnie Kliewer in St. Matthew's Episcopal Church on December 21, 1967. Soon after the wedding, he was deployed to Viet Nam. Back stateside, the couple lived in Yukon for a time, and Philip reenlisted.

He worked at Vance Air Force Base in the IT department. Philip was a long-time member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church. He was a 32nd Degree Mason with Lodge 80 and 501, member of the Eastern Star, and also the Shriners.

Philip started playing in bands when he was fourteen. He played all over Oklahoma and was a member of the house band at the Hilton on Northwest Highway in Oklahoma City. He played with countless local musicians. In the Navy he started as a radioman but took an aptitude test and scored so highly they made him a linguist. He was fluent in Mandarin. He enjoyed computers and watching Sci-Fi movies.

He is survived by his wife Bonnie of the home; children, Patrick Gainey of Enid and Chris Gainey and wife Kristi of Salina, OK; four grandchildren, Shawn Michael and wife Dara, Kortney and husband Cody, Quint and wife Deena, and Tyler; three great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Silas, and Vash.

He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter-in-law Julie Gainey.

Memorials may be made through Henninger-Hinson to the Shriner's Hospital.
