September 7, 1944 ~ May 25, 2019


The Graveside services honoring and celebrating the life of Gary French, 74, of Enid will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday May 30, 2019 in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Full Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Air Force Honor Guard. The Masonic Graveside will be conducted by Garfield Lodge # 501. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

He was born September 07, 1944 to Gordon Shelton and Iva Marie [Bielby] French in Hale, Michigan and passed from this life on May 25, 2019 in Enid, Oklahoma.

He attended Hale High School where he exceled as an athlete playing on his school's first 1A Football team and also played baseball and basketball. He graduated from Hale High School in 1962.

He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1962 and served for eight years as a weatherman and was in the Vietnam conflict.

He married LaVonda “Sue” Stevens on September 25, 1965 in Enid. The couple lived in Japan during his service and returned to Enid in 1971.

He was the owner/operator of Steven's Refrigeration.

He was a 32nd degree Mason, a Shriner, the former President of the Exchange Club, a member of numerous Golfing Associations and The Hole in One Club.

He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman. He was an active person and avid Detroit Tigers Fan.

He loved spending time with his grandchildren and never missed the opportunity to attend all of their activities or take them to the lake.

He is survived by his wife of over fifty-five years, LaVonda "Sue" French, daughters, Wendy Sue Eckert, Natalie Shea, and husband Bryan Mason, both of Enid, son, Nathan S. French, and wife Andrea, of Enid, seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be made in his name to the Shriners Children's Hospital with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.

Lavonda "Sue" [Stevens] French
November 13, 1942 ~ November 4, 2022


Sue was born November 13, 1942, to George N. and Leona Mae Bennett Stevens in Glendale, California and passed from this life November 4, 2022, in Enid, Oklahoma.

She moved to Enid and began attending Enid Public Schools in the second-grade graduating from Enid High School with the class of 1960.

She married the love of her life Gary French September 25, 1965, in Enid.

The couple lived in Japan while Gary served in the United States Air Force. They returned to Enid in 1971.

She was a bookkeeper and owner/operator at Steven's Refrigeration and Heating. While always working at the family business and other jobs throughout the years her main focus was always her family.

She was a devoted mother and proud Grammy. She was a master, Beta Phi Laureate Omega member.

She is survived by her daughters, Wendy Sue Eckert, Natalie Shea Mason and husband Bryan, both of Enid; son, Nathan S. French and wife Andrea, of Enid; seven grandchildren, Cassandra, Emilie, Abigail, Brylie, Connor, Sierra, and Jonnie; and four great grandchildren, Brooklyn, Bailey, Emmitt, and Elijah. She was preceded in death by her husband Gary French.
