ENID — Funeral for Etta Mae Edwards, 89, will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at Anderson - Burris Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Joe Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be 7-8 p.m. today at Anderson - Burris Funeral Home .

Etta Mae was born to William R. and Dora (Treat) Lancaster on May 1, 1922, in Yellville, Ark., and died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011, in Enid.

She attended school in Asher City, Okla., and Rincon, N.M.

Etta Mae moved to Enid in 1938, where she met and married Keith Edwards on Nov. 1, 1942.

She worked for Sears and Newmans, and then followed Keith in his military service to several locations. After he went overseas, she worked for Bendix Aviation Defense Plant in South Bend, Ind. When the war was over, they returned to Enid. After raising her family, she worked for Enid Public Schools as a bus matron for over 30 years.

Etta Mae helped organize the first Habitat for Humanity in Oklahoma, here in Enid. She designed and made their first banners and served on the fund-raising committee. Etta Mae was a member of Oakwood Christian Church and Enid Landlord Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1984, her parents, six brothers and three sisters.

Surviving are son, Dwaine Edwards of Enid; daughter, Darla McFarland of Enid; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Oakwood Christian Church, Hospice Circle of Love, or Habitat for Humanity.
